Are you a resilient and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant looking to make a positive impact in the lives of children and young people across East London?

Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a wide range of mainstream schools, specialist provisions, SEND schools and alternative settings across Tower Hamlets, Newham, Barking & Dagenham, Redbridge, Waltham Forest, Hackney, Havering, Greenwich, Lewisham and surrounding boroughs. We are seeking dedicated professionals to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in Key Stage 2 and Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) settings.

The Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships that promote engagement and self-confidence.
  • Support pupils in managing their emotions, behaviour and social interactions.
  • Implement behaviour support strategies and individual support plans.
  • Assist teachers in creating a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment.
  • Encourage attendance, participation and positive learning behaviours.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, SENCOs and external agencies to support pupil progress.

Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, behavioural or additional learning needs.
  • Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
  • A calm, resilient and proactive approach to supporting challenging behaviours.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience within education, youth work, mentoring, support work or care settings is desirable.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
