Job description
Post-16 SEN Teacher – Autism ARP

Borehamwood / Elstree, Hertfordshire | Full-Time | September Start
Paid to Scale (MPS/UPS + SEN Allowance where applicable)

Empower Young Adults to Thrive

Supply Desk is proud to be working in partnership with an exceptional specialist provision in Borehamwood / Elstree, seeking a dedicated and compassionate Post-16 SEN Teacher to join their highly supportive Autism Resource Provision (ARP).

This rewarding opportunity focuses on teaching Post-16 learners with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC/ASD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and complex communication needs, including non-verbal pupils. The provision offers a calm, structured and nurturing environment where learners are supported to develop independence, communication skills and confidence for adulthood.

This role is ideal for a teacher who understands that success isn't always measured through qualifications alone—but through helping young people gain the life skills they need to become as independent as possible.

The Role

As a Post-16 SEN Teacher, you will:

  • Deliver engaging, personalised lessons within a specialist Autism Resource Provision (ARP).

  • Teach young people with Autism (ASC/ASD), SEMH, complex needs and non-verbal communication profiles.

  • Create differentiated learning programmes centred around EHCP outcomes.

  • Support learners to develop communication, emotional regulation, independence and employability skills.

  • Use visual timetables, PECS, Makaton, AAC devices and sensory strategies where appropriate.

  • Promote life skills, functional literacy and numeracy, social communication and preparation for adulthood.

  • Work collaboratively with therapists, teaching assistants and external professionals.

  • Create a calm, inclusive learning environment that enables every learner to succeed.

  • Celebrate every milestone, recognising that progress looks different for every individual.

About You

We're looking for someone who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

  • Has experience teaching pupils or young adults with Autism (ASC/ASD) and complex needs.

  • Has experience supporting non-verbal learners and adapting communication methods.

  • Understands sensory regulation and structured learning environments.

  • Is confident supporting pupils with SEMH using positive behaviour strategies.

  • Is patient, resilient, empathetic and passionate about specialist education.

  • Enjoys working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Why Join This School?

✨ Specialist Autism Resource Provision (ARP) with excellent facilities.
✨ Small class sizes and excellent staff-to-student ratios.
✨ Supportive leadership team committed to staff wellbeing.
✨ Collaborative working with therapists and specialist professionals.
✨ Autism-specific CPD and career progression opportunities.
✨ A nurturing environment where relationships and individual progress are at the heart of everything.
Paid to Scale (MPS/UPS + SEN Allowance where applicable).

What We Offer

  • Competitive Paid to Scale salary.

  • Long-term opportunity with potential for a permanent contract.

  • Dedicated consultant support throughout your placement.

  • Access to specialist SEND and Autism CPD.

  • Pension contributions.

  • Refer-a-friend bonus scheme.

Apply Today

If you're passionate about supporting young people with Autism, SEMH and complex needs to develop confidence, independence and life skills, we'd love to hear from you.
