Job description

Assistant Nature Officer

Salary: £32,000 per annum
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday (occasional weekend working with TOIL)
Location: Milton Keynes

Established in 1992, The Parks Trust is an independent charity responsible for caring for more than 6,000 acres of green space across Milton Keynes, including parks, lakes, river valleys, ancient woodlands and 80 miles of landscaped grid road corridors. We are passionate about protecting and enhancing these unique landscapes for both people and wildlife.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our expanding Nature Services Team (NST) at a time of significant growth and investment. With opportunities arising through Biodiversity Net Gain, Countryside Stewardship and a recent National Lottery award, we are delivering ambitious projects to improve biodiversity across our estate and integrate nature into every aspect of our landscape management.

As Assistant Nature Officer, you will support the delivery and administration of a range of nature conservation and environmental funding schemes. You will assist with site assessments and surveys, contribute to Biodiversity Net Gain and Countryside Stewardship initiatives, liaise with internal teams and maintain project information using GIS-based asset management systems.

You will also play an important role in the Trust’s ecological monitoring programme, helping to survey and monitor species and habitats across our landscapes. This includes collecting and analysing data, producing reports and sharing key findings that inform habitat management decisions. The role offers excellent professional development opportunities, including support towards obtaining a Great Crested Newt CL08 Licence, training in the Esri GIS suite, funded memberships and a clear pathway for progression into a Nature Officer role.

This position combines office-based and outdoor work, requiring you to work in all seasons and weather conditions.

About You

You will have a degree in ecology, wildlife conservation or a related discipline (or equivalent experience), along with strong collaborative and communication skills. Experience in report writing and Microsoft Office 365 is essential, as is the ability to travel independently around Milton Keynes.

Experience with GIS software, Great Crested Newt surveys, a postgraduate qualification and a full driving licence are desirable.

Most importantly, you will have a genuine passion for wildlife conservation, a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to helping nature thrive.

Application deadline: 11:59pm, Sunday 9 August 2026
