Job Overview

Join an award-winning Payroll Team where you'll make an immediate impact, with the support to succeed.

We're looking for an experienced Payroll Administrator to join our friendly and award-winning Payroll Team on a fixed-term contract for 6 months.

As part of our ongoing investment in the team, we're currently working on a number of internal projects focused on improving our systems, processes and overall client experience. To help support the team during this busy period, we're looking for an experienced payroll professional who can provide additional resource and become a valued member of the team.

This role would suit someone who enjoys the pace, variety and challenge of a bureau environment. You'll be managing your own portfolio of payroll clients, building relationships and helping us continue to deliver a fantastic service to our clients.

Whilst we're looking for someone with the experience and confidence to become productive relatively quickly, this definitely isn't a case of being left to fend for yourself. We'll provide a structured induction, training on our systems and processes, and pair you with a buddy to help you settle in. You'll work alongside our Senior Payroll Advisors and Payroll Manager, who will support you throughout your onboarding and beyond.

We're not looking for someone to simply "cover a gap". We're looking for someone who can become part of the team, share their experience, build great relationships with our clients, and make a genuine impact from the moment they join us.

Most importantly, you'll be joining a team that genuinely supports one another, shares knowledge and takes pride in delivering an exceptional service. And, not to brag (but they've earned it!), you'll be joining an award-winning Payroll Team, recognised as Payroll Team of the Year at the Yorkshire Accountancy Awards.

Location: Chesterfield (Hybrid Working)

Responsibilities

What You'll Be Doing

No two days in payroll are ever exactly the same, but your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing your own portfolio of payroll clients from start to finish.
  • Processing payrolls accurately and on time across a variety of businesses and sectors.
  • Calculating and processing statutory payments including SSP, SMP and other payroll-related payments.
  • Processing workplace pension contributions and submissions.
  • Building positive working relationships with clients and becoming a trusted point of contact.
  • Responding to payroll queries from clients, colleagues and external organisations.
  • Keeping up to date with payroll legislation, HMRC guidance and industry developments.
  • Managing multiple deadlines and priorities within a busy bureau environment.
  • Supporting year-end payroll activities and submissions.
  • Working collaboratively with the wider Payroll Team to ensure an excellent client experience.
  • Sharing ideas and contributing to continuous improvement within the team.

Qualifications & Experience

What We're Looking For

We're less interested in buzzwords and more interested in finding someone who can genuinely roll their sleeves up, support the team and bring great payroll experience with them.

Ideally, you'll have:

  • End-to-end payroll processing experience
  • Experience working within a payroll bureau, accountancy practice or multi-client payroll environment
  • Experience processing work place pensions
  • Up-to-date payroll knowledge, including statutory payments and recent legislative
  • changes. (SSP)
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills
  • The ability to manage multiple deadlines and changing priorities
  • Confidence communicating with clients and building strong working
  • relationships
  • A proactive, positive and team-focused attitude

You'll Probably Enjoy This Role If:

  • You like variety and don't want to process the same payroll every day.
  • You enjoy building relationships with clients and becoming their trusted payroll contact.
  • You take pride in getting the detail right.
  • You enjoy working with supportive, knowledgeable colleagues who genuinely look out for one another.
  • You like being busy and making a difference from day one.

Previous payroll bureau or accountancy practice experience would be highly advantageous.
