Job description
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Audiologist to join our team at Thorpe Park Clinic. The post holder will provide clinical audiology services in line with best practice guidelines while exercising professional judgement to meet patient needs. The role also includes managing service audit, clinical governance, continuing professional development and training staff and incoming students. Main Duties And Responsibilities * Assessment of the hearing ability of individuals across a wide range of patient groups using various audiological techniques, including specialised equipment and methods, and be clinically accountable for clinic reports and treatment plans. * Assessment of patients with balance disorders using highly specialised equipment and be clinically accountable for clinic reports and treatment plans. * Reporting of findings to a wide range of colleagues, both within the NHS and to external statutory and non‑statutory bodies. Reports contain recommended courses of action where appropriate. * Participate in and advise on service development, treatment/intervention types and equipment procurement for the department, within the scope of the postholder’s knowledge. * Use SystmOne and all other internal recording and reporting systems. * Provide in‑depth knowledge of the effects of hearing loss for patients, their families, carers and other organisations. * Deliver patient‑centred care and support for individuals, relatives and carers who may have special needs or other physical disabilities and who may face barriers to communication. * Maintain a professional, compassionate and polite manner at all times. * Keep accurate patient records and input clinical data and reports into the audiology department’s computer database. * Have some knowledge of computer databases and information technology networked systems; training will be provided for software specific to the area of work. * Communicate effectively and timely in a wide range of situations where barriers to communication may exist. * Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver a coordinated service and assist others to deliver their services. * Participate in the activities of representative professional bodies for the benefit of the department, the hospital and the trust, and to the advantage of service users. * Ensure that statutory mandatory training is up to date in line with the requirements of the post. * Use techniques of practice review and reflection, together with supervision and appraisal, to develop own and colleagues’ work performance. * Accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients and organise this caseload effectively, considering clinical priorities and departmental resources. * Negotiate resource allocations at outreach clinics with local managers to manage clinical caseloads efficiently. * Carry out front‑line diagnostic and troubleshooting evaluation of audiological equipment, repair when appropriate, and refer to others with greater specialist knowledge when required, exercising high judgement. Knowledge, Skills And Experience * Hold a BSc (Hons) in Audiology, or BAAT parts 1 and 2. * Have at least two years of post‑qualification experience in a busy hospital setting, including supporting ENT services. * AHCS registered, and registered with the BAA or BSA (desirable). Training This role will have access to external and in‑house training courses. Annual appraisals and professional development plans will be completed and acted upon appropriately. Ongoing Support The post holder will receive ongoing support throughout the operational structure and will work closely with the clinical team. Key Relationships The post holder will link with a variety of key stakeholders, including healthcare and social care professionals, volunteers, educational organisations and service users. The post holder may also be responsible for managing an outreach clinic, its caseloads and required resources.
