Job description

Are you an experienced communications professional who knows how to turn strategy into meaningful colleague engagement? Do you enjoy creating campaigns, conversations and experiences that help people feel informed, involved and inspired?

Do you want your work to genuinely matter – helping thousands of colleagues across the UK feel connected to a shared purpose while contributing to better lives for the people we support?

Community Integrated Care is one of the UK's largest social care charities, supporting thousands of people with learning disabilities or mental health conditions to live the lives they choose.

As we deliver our ambitious five-year strategy – Best Lives, Bolder – this is a defining moment for our organisation. We're focused on building a culture where colleagues feel heard, valued and empowered, and where communication and engagement play a vital role in helping us achieve our ambitions.

We're looking for an exceptional Internal Communications & Engagement Manager to lead our colleague communications and engagement activity, ensuring colleagues understand our priorities, feel connected to our culture and have opportunities to shape the future of our charity.

This is a full-time permanent, national role with hybrid working. You will be required to work from our head office at least once a week, so our ideal candidate will be based within an hour's commute of Widnes, Cheshire.

What is The Deal for you?

  • Flexibility! You can work your full-time hours over 4 days and enjoy a long weekend or work over 5 days to accommodate your other commitments.
  • Pension: Contributary pension scheme
  • Benefits: Retail discounts, holiday discounts, cycle to work scheme and travel discounts through our benefits app.
  • Best Lives Possible: You'll be working for an award winning charity who is passionate about ensuring our colleagues and the people we support lead the best lives bolder
  • Development: We'll work with you to develop your career or to learn and experience new things. We're passionate about developing our people!
  • Dare to Learn: Access to our amazing online training platform where you can upskill taking a variety of courses and qualifications.
  • Support: From our Employee Assistance Programme (available 24/7), financial support options, and wellbeing fund you'll have the support available to lead an easier (financial) life.

This role is perfect for someone who wants to build an incredible career in an award-winning communications team while taking ownership of colleague communications and engagement across a large, UK wide organisation.

You'll lead the delivery of communications and engagement activity that helps colleagues feel informed, connected and motivated. From organisation-wide communications and leadership events to colleague listening, recognition programmes and engagement campaigns, you'll play a central role in shaping colleague experience and ensuring every voice has the opportunity to be heard.

Working closely with senior leaders, support service teams and operational colleagues, you'll provide expert advice, deliver engaging communications and use colleague insight to drive continuous improvement. You'll help create meaningful opportunities for colleagues to influence decisions, strengthen culture and connect with our shared vision for the future.

You'll also lead our approach to colleague voice and engagement, overseeing activities such as engagement surveys, colleague listening initiatives and our GameChangers forum, ensuring feedback is translated into meaningful action that makes a real difference.

What you'll be doing:

  • Leading the delivery of internal communications and engagement activity across the organisation
  • Developing and delivering communication strategies that support organisational and workforce priorities
  • Owning and delivering our regular internal communications cycle, including colleague communications, leadership updates, webinars and manager briefings
  • Managing and continuously improving colleague communication channels, including the intranet, Viva Engage, email communications and You First magazine
  • Creating engaging content and campaigns that bring our Best Lives, Bolder strategy to life
  • Leading colleague listening activity, including engagement surveys, pulse surveys, focus groups and other feedback mechanisms
  • Managing and developing our GameChangers colleague forum to ensure colleague insight is captured, shared and acted upon
  • Leading reward, recognition and engagement initiatives, including colleague awards, awareness campaigns and wellbeing activity
  • Providing trusted communications and engagement advice to leaders and stakeholders across the organisation
  • Acting as a guardian of brand, tone of voice and communication standards
  • Monitoring and evaluating communications and engagement activity, using data and insight to improve impact and effectiveness
  • Leading, coaching and developing an Internal Communications & Engagement Specialist

What we're looking for:

We're looking for a confident, creative and strategic communications professional who is passionate about colleague engagement and committed to creating great colleague experiences.

You'll bring:

  • Proven experience in an internal communications, engagement or employee experience role
  • Experience developing and delivering communication and engagement strategies, campaigns and initiatives
  • Experience leading colleague listening activity, including engagement surveys and insight analysis
  • Experience developing recognition, engagement and culture-building programmes
  • Excellent communication, writing and storytelling skills
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with confidence working alongside senior leaders
  • The ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging and accessible communications
  • Experience working across a dispersed workforce and engaging diverse audiences
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • The ability to interpret insight and data to inform decisions and improve outcomes
  • A proactive, collaborative and solutions-focused approach
  • The ability to switch seamlessly between strategic thinking and hands-on delivery

If you want to take on a role where your work will strengthen culture, amplify colleague voice and help thousands of colleagues feel connected to a meaningful purpose, we'd love to hear from you.
