Job description
NIHR Clinical Lecturer in Neurology/Clinical Training Fellow Academic Clinical Lecturer in Neurology at University College London Applications are invited for appointments as an Academic Clinical Lecturer on the Specialty Training Programme in the following: 1 x ST4 or ST5 or ST6 at University College London Eligibility Guidance This post is for trainees who have completed a relevant higher degree that is PhD or MD (original research). You must have submitted your thesis by the time of application and been awarded your higher degree by the post start date. Entry Grade For ST4 entry, applicants must hold a current NTN in Neurology and must be ST4 at post start date. Or Must complete a separate standard clinical application to Neurology ST4 national recruitment (called Clinical Benchmarking) and attend an assessment/interview for Neurology in 2026 and be found appointable. For ST5 entry, applicants must hold a current NTN in Neurology and must be ST5 at post start date. For ST6 entry, applicants must hold a current NTN in Neurology and must be ST6 at post start date. Important information about training grades Please note that the grade/s advertised are the grade/s at post start date. This means that applicants must be eligible to train at the advertised grade/s at the start date of the post. Please be aware that trainees are not permitted to repeat training for the purposes of taking up a CL post and trainees are not permitted to start at a grade that is not advertised. As an example, if a post is advertised at ST3 grade, then a current ST3 trainee who is on track to become an ST4 trainee at the post start date would NOT under any circumstances be permitted to take up the CL post at ST3 grade as this would entail repeating training that has already been completed. If you are in receipt of an ARCP at the grade you are applying to, you will not be eligible for that grade. This award is for completion of CCT/ CESR (CP) subject to satisfactory progression. Failure to provide the outlined information by the close of application may result in your application being withdrawn. Please note that declaring a fitness‑to‑practise matter does not automatically preclude progression in the recruitment process. Eligibility Criteria for recruitment to Specialty Training – Immigration Requirements All medical practitioners are on the shortage occupation list, so all specialty recruitment applicants will be exempt from the resident labour market test. NHS England (NHSE) is responsible for the sponsorship of Medical and Dental trainees for their Skilled worker visa application in England. The Medical Specialty Recruitment website has guidance for applicants requiring a visa. Contacts / Enquiries Please contact Laura Allum, HR Manager, UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology (l.allum@ucl.ac.uk ). About you How to apply Applicants must: * Download and fully complete the UCL NIHR Clinical Lecturer application form (below) * Upload it together with all required supporting documents to the UCL recruitment system (TalentLink) * Incomplete applications will not be considered. As stated above, applicants without a National Training Number (NTN) in the GMC core/specialty training programme and level to which they are applying must be found appointable at the core/speciality training interviews in the 2026 Recruitment Round 1/2 (where applicable). If no national recruitment is available at the core/specialty training programme and level to which they are applying, applicants without an NTN are ineligible. Please see NHSE Clinical Lecturers – Academic Recruitment Pathways for more information. Please note that if you have not been found appointable at the specialty recruitment in 2026, then you will not be eligible for the post. All applicants applying to medical specialties are required to have essential competences or equivalent depending on the level they are applying for as demonstrated on the person specification. Please upload all required evidence of competencies to your application form when completing the application form online. For those experiencing difficulties when uploading evidence, please ensure you contact the local HR team (contact details below). Applicants with an NTN based inside of the region to which they are applying must provide their most recent ARCP.
