Job description

Specialist Support Assistant – SLD School – Rainham | September Start

Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs to develop their independence, communication, and confidence?

We are working with a specialist SLD school in Rainham that is looking to appoint a caring and dedicated Specialist Support Assistant to join their supportive team from September.

This specialist school supports pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), providing a nurturing, inclusive, and personalised environment where every pupil is supported to achieve their individual goals. The school focuses on developing communication, independence, sensory awareness, and essential life skills while ensuring pupils receive the specialist care and support they need.

As a Specialist Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to provide high-quality, individualised support throughout the school day. You will assist pupils with their learning, communication, sensory activities, personal care, and mobility needs, helping to create a safe, engaging, and supportive environment where every pupil can thrive.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience supporting children or young people with SLD, PMLD, complex SEND, Autism, or additional needs
  • Be caring, patient, and compassionate
  • Be comfortable supporting pupils with personal care, mobility, and medical needs where required
  • Have a genuine passion for helping young people develop their independence and communication skills
  • Be able to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues
  • Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team

This is a rewarding opportunity to join a specialist school where you can make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people every day. The school offers a supportive working environment, ongoing training, and opportunities for professional development within specialist education.

If you are looking for a fulfilling role where you can positively impact pupils’ lives and support their individual journeys, we would love to hear from you.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
