About the Role

This is a great opportunity to join Nottingham Trent University as a key member of the team delivering media communications and production provision to students enrolled on our established Sino-UK Joint BA programme in Media Communications, and our Masters Programmes (MA Media and Globalisation, MA Broadcast Journalism, MA Museum and Heritage Development) with Communication University of China (CUC).

Your role will be to deliver modules to students in the second and third year of their 4-year dual award programme, and to students undertaking 2-year Masters programmes. You will also be involved in supervising students' final projects, You will prepare and deliver classes for up to 16 hours per week on campus at CUC in Beijing, support students through 1-1 and group tutorials, assess students’ performance formatively in class and through summative assessments, and work closely with co-tutors and the leadership team in the UK and China to ensure the success of the programmes.

You would be based at CUC in Beijing, normally for a minimum of two periods of 13 weeks each academic year, with these periods aligned to CUC's academic calendar. Teaching takes place across two semesters, with the first usually running from late September to mid- December, and the second from early March to early June (exact dates are confirmed annually). The planned start date for this role is dependent on the outcome of interviews and the availability of the successful candidate. There is an option for the role to start in the autumn of ahead of a 6 week period of teaching in Beijing commencing Monday 9 November; at latest the start date will be will be by mid January to allow preparation before the second semester starting in early March .

If you have recent teaching experience in a higher education context, for a minimum of 2 years, with knowledge of curriculum developments, contemporary teaching practices, and an ability to transfer this knowledge into supporting our collaborative partnership with CUC, then we would like to hear from you. It will be an advantage if you can demonstrate experience of teaching groups of international students.

About Us

The Sino-UK Joint Institute is partnership between Nottingham Trent University (NTU) and Communication University of China (CUC). Established in , we offer undergraduate and postgraduate taught provision in Journalism, Media, and Museum and Heritage Development, alongside a suite of modules providing bespoke Academic English support, which encourage students to innovate, explore and create. Teaching is delivered in Beijing at CUC's campus.

For this post:

  • Two return flights to China per academic year, accommodation and settling-in costs will be provided by NTU.
  • NTU will cover the costs of obtaining a work visa to teach in China. Please note:Eligibility is subject to Chinese regulations.To be eligible for this role, you must be a UK tax resident and have the legal right to work in the UK
  • You will be part of a small team of NTU academic staff based at CUC in Beijing. In addition to the support provided by the team, support in daily life in Beijing will be provided by the partner university staff within the Joint Institute.
