Job description

Attendance Officer – Secondary School – Warrington Start Date: As soon as possible Contract: Full-Time, Permanent Salary: Paid to scale A well-established secondary school in Warrington is seeking a dedicated and highly organised Attendance Officer to join its pastoral support team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about improving attendance, building positive relationships with families and supporting students to achieve their full potential through consistent school attendance. Working alongside the Attendance Lead, Heads of Year and safeguarding team, you will monitor attendance across the school, identify patterns of concern and coordinate early intervention strategies that support students and families. You will play a key role in maintaining accurate attendance records while ensuring statutory attendance procedures are followed effectively. This role would suit someone who enjoys working with young people, communicating with families and making a genuine difference to student outcomes. Attendance is recognised as a key priority, and the school has invested in strong systems and dedicated pastoral support to help students overcome barriers to learning. Attendance Team The Attendance Team works proactively with students, families and external agencies to promote excellent attendance while supporting those who require additional intervention. Your responsibilities will include: Monitoring daily attendance and punctuality. Contacting parents regarding unexplained absences. Producing attendance reports and analysing attendance data. Identifying persistent absence and implementing intervention strategies. Meeting with parents and carers to discuss attendance concerns. Liaising with the Local Authority Attendance Service and external agencies. Supporting Heads of Year with attendance improvement plans. Maintaining accurate attendance records using the school's MIS. Promoting whole-school attendance initiatives. Ensuring compliance with statutory attendance guidance. Maintaining confidential student information. Providing administrative support to the wider pastoral team where required. The successful candidate will become an important member of a dedicated pastoral team committed to improving attendance, supporting student wellbeing and ensuring every young person has the opportunity to succeed. Requirements Previous attendance, pastoral or school administration experience is desirable. Excellent organisational and communication skills. Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office. Experience using school MIS systems is advantageous. High attention to detail. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Professional and empathetic approach. Commitment to safeguarding and inclusion. Ability to build positive relationships with families. Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
