Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, monitor, and evaluate students' progress, providing constructive feedback to support continuous improvement.
  • Differentiate lessons to meet the needs of students with varying abilities, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and English as an Additional Language (EAL).
  • Promote teamwork, resilience, leadership, respect, and sportsmanship through a broad and balanced PE curriculum.

  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages participation from all students.
  • Support students in developing healthy lifestyles, physical fitness, and positive attitudes towards exercise.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, assessment, and behaviour records in line with school policies.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop schemes of work, share best practice, and contribute to curriculum planning.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding students' progress, attendance, and wellbeing.
  • Participate in parents' evenings, staff meetings, professional development, and whole-school events.
  • Contribute to the school's extracurricular sports programme by running clubs, coaching teams, organising competitions, and accompanying students to fixtures and tournaments.
  • Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and promote the welfare of all students at all times.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, or a related subject.
  • Excellent subject knowledge and a passion for physical education and sport.
  • Strong classroom management and behaviour management skills.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Commitment to promoting equality, inclusion, and student wellbeing.
  • A collaborative approach to working within a successful teaching team.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience teaching PE in a UK secondary school.
  • Ability to teach GCSE and/or A-Level Physical Education.
  • Experience coaching school sports teams and leading extracurricular activities.
  • Knowledge of current PE curriculum requirements and assessment frameworks.
  • Experience supporting students with additional learning needs within practical lessons.
  • First Aid qualification or willingness to undertake training.

What We Offer

  • A welcoming and supportive school community.
  • Access to excellent sports facilities and teaching resources.
  • Opportunities for continuous professional development and career progression.
  • A collaborative and experienced PE department committed to delivering high-quality education.
  • The opportunity to make a lasting impact on students' physical, social, and emotional development.
  • A strong focus on staff wellbeing and work-life balance.
