Band 6 Adult Community Speech and Language Therapist Job Ref: 333-D-MK-CM-1226 | Contract: Fixed term: 12 months (maternity leave cover) | Hours: Full time (37.5 hrs/week) | Location: The Open University Campus, Pentz Building, Milton Keynes | Salary:£45,953 - £54,254 per annum pro rata | Closing: 31/07/2026 23:59 Job overview The Milton Keynes Adult Community Speech and Language Therapy Service is a friendly, innovative and highly supportive team of therapists and support staff who are passionate about delivering high‑quality Speech and Language Therapy at the point of need. This role is for a motivated and enthusiastic Band 6 Community Speech and Language Therapist to join the Home1st Planned Care and Domiciliary Speech and Language Therapy pathways. Main duties of the job The post holder will have experience in providing specialist assessment, treatment and management for adults with acquired speech, language and communication needs, as well as eating and drinking difficulties that may be due to neurological and progressive conditions, age‑related or other health conditions in a range of community settings. Other key responsibilities include: * Managing referrals into Home1st and Domiciliary SLT pathways, including triage, prioritisation and waiting list management. * Assessing, developing, implementing and evaluating specialist Speech and Language Therapy interventions for adults with acquired communication and swallowing disorders. * Providing specialist advice to patients, relatives, carers, non‑specialist staff and other professionals regarding the management and care of adults with communication and swallowing difficulties. * Involving clients, relatives and carers in planning and prioritising care plans and contributing to multidisciplinary planning to support identified goals and outcomes. * Contributing to service development, clinical training, supervision of less experienced staff, assistants and students, and development of care pathways and service information. * Working independently, self‑motivated, and managing competing demands in a pressured community environment. Qualifications * Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree or equivalent. * Registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists. * Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council. Additional Training * Specialist training and/or experience in managing dysphagia, in line with the RCSLT competency framework. * Membership of relevant CEN. * Evidence of successful completion of specialist courses up to Masters level or equivalent experience. Experience / Skills * At least 1 year’s experience in the field of acquired communication and swallowing disorders. * Ability to work in a pressured environment. * Full driver’s licence and access to a car for work. * Experience with relevant client group. * Specialist post in acquired neurological communication and swallowing disorders. * Experience in interpreting and explaining VF reports. * Ability to lone work. * Self‑motivated, initiative‑seeking. * Experience handling a busy caseload and pressured environment.
