Job summary
Applications are invited for this exciting opportunity to work within the UK's largest specialist heart and lung centre, within a team focusing on research in cardiac electrophysiology and treatment of persistent arrhythmias.

The post holder will support recruitment, consenting and enrolment of eligible patients to a clinical trial being set up at Guy's, Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals. The post holder will provide medical assessments and ensure appropriate clinical data collection as relevant to the study.

The successful applicant will be expected to undertake GCP and other training as appropriate for the role.

The post will provide very good platform to develop research projects and register for a MD(Res)/PhD.

This post may close early if a sufficient number of applications have been received.

Main duties of the job
The primary role of the post holder is to provide medical support for the patients agreeing to take part in the clinical trial as well as support for the delivery of the research project.

The post holder will work with experienced clinicians with strong research portfolios providing opportunities for continuous training.

The post holder's main duties will be:
  • To manage and conduct all aspects of the research project set out in clinical study protocol
  • To ensure that the clinical study is conducted to relevant international governance standards and reaching the targets
  • To record, analyse and communicate scientific data together with a clear interpretation of results
  • To assist in development of the research protocol, ethics applications and necessary NHS approvals if required
  • To develop relevant research skills
  • To participate in clinical governance activities and audit
  • To write scientific papers communicating the results of the work, and to present at scientific meetings nationally and internationally, where appropriate

Job responsibilities
  • Support timely delivery of the clinical trial to required medical standards and in line with current guidelines and regulations;
  • Support research participants, provide medical assessments and liaise with principal investigators;
  • Consent research participants, collect their medical histories and other relevant clinical data;
  • Be responsible for specific study-related medical decisions as agreed with the Study Principal Investigator;
  • Perform clinical procedures as appropriate to the assigned study;
  • Review study documentation and complete appropriate sections of Case Report Forms;
  • Maintain accurate and accessible research records and medical notes;
  • Provide medical input into integrated clinical, safety and statistical reports as requested;
  • Provide medical input and review of study protocols and other related study documentation and participate in research meetings, study review meetings, and meetings with principal investigators and study sponsors;
  • Maintain awareness and keep abreast of latest technologies in the medical field and share that knowledge with the CRF team;
  • Prepare reports for submission to regulatory bodies, funders and medical and scientific journals as appropriate;
  • Ensure personal Trust mandatory training is up to date;
  • Develop and maintain computer skills to utilise available systems for the efficient management and administration of the day-to-day activities of the CRF;
  • Any other duties as may be deemed reasonable by the senior team;
  • To participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care.

Qualifications and Training

  • GMC Registered MBBS or equivalent
