TEAM LEADER - RESIDENTIAL CHILDRENS HOME

SUPERVISES: RESIDENTIAL SUPPORT WORKERS

REPORTS TO: MANAGER

RESPONSIBLE TO: REGISTERED MANAGER


JOB SUMMARY

The post holder will report to the Team Leader and Registered Homes Manager of the home and will be responsible for residential staff within the home. You will support the Homes Manager and Team Leader to manage the resources of the home to provide a positive living experience for the children and young people.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead shifts, allocate and supervise staff and children/young people, delegate tasks, and manage the day-to-day needs of the home.

• Offer guidance and support to all residential staff.

• Provide supervision to residential support staff on a regular basis.

• Manage the home’s day-to-day finances for the children/young people.

• Ensure that weekly and monthly audits and checks are completed, including Health and Safety audits, Medication audits, and Fire checks/drills.

• Administer children/young people’s medication in line with the home’s medication policy.

• Support child-centred planning, ensuring each child/young person has meaningful and achievable goals.

• Prepare reports and attend review meetings and other multi-disciplinary meetings.

• Develop positive relationships with family members.

• Assist in the smooth running of the home as part of a multidisciplinary team, promoting a warm, caring, safe, and enjoyable environment.

• Understand and follow the complaints procedure, reporting complaints or inappropriate incidents to management.

• Be flexible with work routines and shift patterns to meet the needs of the service.

• Support children/young people in other environments outside of the home as required (e.g., school and hospital stays).

• Liaise with management and colleagues regarding issues within the home, updating on progress or difficulties and advising when management intervention is needed.

• Communicate effectively through oral and written communication.

• Attend 4-6 weekly supervision and weekly staff meetings.

• Make use of all available training and staff development opportunities, ensuring training is up to date.

• Ensure domestic standards such as cooking and cleaning are monitored and maintained.

• Promote the health, safety, and welfare of all Service Users, supporting their development into responsible members of the community.

• Arrange medical and dental treatments as necessary and complete relevant documentation.

• Liaise with families and other multi-agencies to gather information to assist in assessing the needs of children.

• Provide a stimulating environment and participate in activities with children/young people.

• Promote the home’s safeguarding procedures and report any safeguarding concerns.

• Establish secure, respectful, and trusting relationships with appropriate boundaries.

• Monitor personal behavior and its impact on others.

• Undertake key-worker/co-worker roles for specific children/young people.

• Ensure accurate and contemporaneous record-keeping.

• Work with staff and other professionals to support positive behavior change.

• Ensure an atmosphere of safety and emotional support for children/young people.

• Be flexible in working/travelling to other homes as required.

• Follow Ofsted regulations and the nine quality standards.



GENERAL HEALTH AND SAFETY

• Maintain a safe, clean, and hygienic working environment.

• Use protective equipment such as gloves and aprons in line with policies.

• Ensure food hygiene standards are adhered to at all times.

• Complete all Health and Safety and daily routine checks.

• Maintain Health and Safety standards while on duty.

• Support the upkeep of the building and maintenance of equipment.

• Report areas of heightened risk and ensure no harm is caused through neglect.

• Ensure all Health and Safety policies and procedures are followed by self and team.




Requirements

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Seek and provide advice and support when necessary.

• Make appropriate decisions through consultation and escalate to the on-call manager where needed.

• Challenge poor practice and report to the manager if not resolved.
