Job Title -Associate Tutor

Summary

The Associate Tutor is tasked with planning and delivering inclusive, creative, and learner-centered art sessions for adults with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and mental health needs. This role is pivotal in adapting creative activities to align with individual abilities and aspirations, empowering learners to express themselves, build confidence, enhance wellbeing, and foster independence through artistic engagement. The Associate Tutor is responsible for cultivating a safe, supportive, and encouraging learning environment where learners can achieve personal goals at their own pace, develop practical and social skills, and experience a sense of accomplishment through creative expression.

Responsibilities

• Teaching and Learning
  
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, high-quality art and creative learning sessions tailored to individual learner needs and goals.
    
  • Ensure sessions are accessible, meaningful, and supportive of learner participation and achievement.
    
  • Utilize diverse teaching methods and creative approaches to enhance learning, engagement, and personal development.
    
  • Encourage the development of artistic, practical, communication, and social skills through creative activities.
    
• Curriculum Planning and Delivery
  
  • Develop and maintain Schemes of Work, lesson plans, and learning resources that meet program requirements and learner needs.
    
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and learning activities.
    
  • Adapt learning materials and teaching strategies to accommodate a range of physical, sensory, emotional, and cognitive needs.
    
• Learner Support and Development
  
  • Support learners in building confidence, independence, self-esteem, and emotional wellbeing through creative learning opportunities.
    
  • Motivate learners to set realistic goals and celebrate progress and achievements.
    
  • Promote active participation in learning activities, community projects, exhibitions, and enrichment opportunities.
    
  • Encourage positive social interaction, teamwork, and community engagement.
    
• Collaboration and Communication
  
  • Collaborate with support staff, carers, families, and other professionals to ensure holistic learner support.
    
  • Participate in learner reviews, progress meetings, and multidisciplinary discussions as required.
    
  • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
    
• Safeguarding and Wellbeing
  
  • Ensure the safety, wellbeing, dignity, and rights of all learners at all times.
    
  • Follow organizational safeguarding, health and safety, equality, diversity, and inclusion policies and procedures.
    
  • Identify and report safeguarding concerns promptly and appropriately.
    
  • Use positive behavior support strategies and de-escalation techniques to manage challenging behavior effectively.
    
• Administration and Record Keeping
  
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of attendance, learner progress, achievements, support requirements, and assessment outcomes.
    
  • Contribute to Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), progress reviews, and learner evaluations.
    
  • Complete all administrative duties within required timescales.
    

Requirements

• Essential Qualifications
  
  • Level 3 qualification or above in Art, Creative Arts, Education, Adult Learning, or a related subject.
    
  • Teaching, Training, or Assessing qualification (e.g., Award in Education and Training (AET), PTLLS, or equivalent) or willingness to work towards one.
    
  • Safeguarding Adults training or willingness to undertake training.
    
  • First Aid qualification (desirable).
    
• Essential Experience
  
  • Experience delivering learning, training, or creative activities to adults with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, autism, mental health needs, or other additional support needs.
    
  • Experience planning and delivering inclusive and accessible learning sessions.
    
  • Experience adapting teaching methods and resources to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
    
  • Experience supporting individuals to achieve personal, educational, or developmental goals.
    
  • Experience maintaining learner records and monitoring progress.
    
• Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies
  
  • Strong understanding of inclusive learning practices and person-centered approaches.
    
  • Knowledge of safeguarding principles and working with vulnerable adults.
    
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
    
  • Ability to motivate and inspire learners of differing abilities.

• Desirable Criteria
  
  • Experience delivering arts-based programs within community, adult education, or supported learning settings.
    
  • Knowledge of mental health awareness and positive behavior support.
    
  • Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
    
  • Experience supporting learners in community engagement projects, exhibitions, or creative enterprise activities.

Additional Information

• Location: 33 Winkfield Road, London, Greater London, N22 5RP, United Kingdom
  
• Rate: £27.91 per hour (Limited Company/Umbrella)
  
• Contract Type: Associate Tutor (Sessional/Hourly Paid)
  
• Working Hours: As required

• A flexible and person-centered approach to teaching and learning is essential.
  
• Experience working with learners who have learning disabilities, physical disabilities, sensory impairments, autism, and/or mental health needs is highly desirable.
  
• The ability to adapt teaching methods, communication styles, and learning resources to meet individual learner needs is essential.
  
• A recognized teaching qualification (e.g., AET, PTLLS, CTLLS, Cert Ed, PGCE or equivalent) is desirable but not essential. Applicants without a teaching qualification should be willing to work towards one if required.
  
• An enhanced DBS check may be required for this position.
