Job description
Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Sister/Charge Nurse - Cardiology The closing date is 05 August 2026. In this role, youll work closely with the Unit Manager to maintain and build upon the high standards of care and patient safety that our team is proud to deliver. Your leadership and clinical expertise will be key in ensuring that every patient receives safe, timely, and compassionate care. You will be warmly welcomed and well supported by a fantastic team who are passionate and aspire to provide excellent care. In addition, youll support the Unit Manager with a range of leadership and management responsibilities, helping to foster a positive team culture, coordinate service delivery, and ensure the smooth running of the unit. Your contribution will help drive excellence across both clinical and operational aspects of the service. Main duties of the job * Work closely with ward managers to maintain and improve high standards of care and patient safety. * Lead from the front as a Band 6, providing leadership during shifts. * Coordinate the shift, ensuring smooth operations and patient flow. * Attend ward rounds and actively participate in patient care discussions. * Liaise with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure collaborative care. * Support staff wellbeing and development, offering guidance and mentorship. * Assist the ward manager with leadership and management responsibilities, including: o Fostering a positive team culture. o Coordinating service delivery. o Ensuring the smooth running of the unit. * Drive excellence in clinical and operational aspects of the service. Job responsibilities Support the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse or Matron in ensuring the provision of excellent care with compassion for the patients, relatives and visitors who are cared for within or by the ward, department, service or team. Ensure a high standard of nursing is delivered by self and others based on assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care to meet patients needs in accordance with agreed local and National standards and evidence based guidelines. Assist and support the Ward Manager in the safe, effective management of the area including management of personnel, facilities and the associated systems and processes. Act as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team and the organisation. Be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation and supervision of duties carried out by junior staff. Set, monitor and maintain standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care. Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines. Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals. Ensure environment of care is safe, well equipped and compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness. Where there are difficult to fill roles solutions are found to ensure the department has sustainable staffing structures at substantive spend, which may be achieved through different marketing solutions or different structural arrangement. To participate in education and training of junior staff. Maintain and develop own professional competence and seek to extend the scope of personal knowledge and skills within scope of role and professional practice. Person Specification Qualifications & Education * Appropriate NMC Registration * NMC recognised Mentorship qualification * Post registration qualification in area of speciality area Knowledge & Experience * Evidence of leadership experience and learning. * Awareness of recent advances within Nursing practice * Knowledge of Clinical Governance and safeguarding and the relevance to practice * Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures * Experience of implementing changes to benefit patients and improve nursing practice * Knowledge of Ethical issues * Evidence of clinical competence in area of speciality eg surgery * Knowledge of Research and Development Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions. £39,959 to £48,117 a year pro rata, per annum J-18808-Ljbffr
