Senior Client Accountant

FindCore are thrilled to be assisting an ambitious and fast-growing accountancy practice with the recruitment of a Senior Client Accountant.

Permanent, full-time position. This role will be based in Milton Keynes and will operate on a hybrid basis following successful completion of probation. During probation, the position will be fully office-based; thereafter, employees may work four days in the office and one day from home.

The successful candidate will manage a varied portfolio of SME clients, provide accounting, tax and advisory support, and work closely with business owners and senior leadership.

Salary

£40,000–£55,000, depending on experience and qualification level

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of up to 50 SME clients, reduced to approximately 30 where the portfolio includes more complex or VIP clients.
• Act as the primary point of contact for clients across accounting, tax and financial advisory matters.
• Build strong, long-term relationships with business owners and provide proactive commercial support.
• Prepare and review statutory accounts under FRS 102 and FRS 105.
• Prepare and review corporation tax computations and CT600 submissions.
• Produce management accounts, financial reports and variance analysis.
• Support clients with budgeting, cash-flow forecasting and wider business planning.
• Review VAT returns and ensure work is completed accurately and within agreed deadlines.
• Liaise with HMRC, Companies House, banks and other third parties.
• Identify opportunities to improve client systems, reporting and financial processes.
• Review bookkeeping, VAT and accounts work completed by junior team members.
• Provide mentoring, technical support and guidance to junior colleagues.
• Assist with workflow management, resource planning and team development.
• Support client onboarding, engagement renewals and company secretarial matters.
• Use Xero, Dext and other cloud-based accounting tools to deliver an efficient client service.
• Identify opportunities to improve internal systems, automation and client workflows.

Skills & Experience

• Previous experience working within a UK accountancy practice is essential.
• Experience independently managing a portfolio of SME clients.
• ACA or ACCA qualification would be advantageous, although part-qualified and qualified-by-experience candidates will also be considered.
• Strong technical knowledge across statutory accounts, corporation tax, VAT and personal tax.
• Hands-on experience preparing and reviewing accounts from start to finish.
• Strong working knowledge of Xero and cloud accounting systems.
• Excellent client relationship and communication skills.
• Commercially minded, with the confidence to provide practical advice to business owners.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
• Experience supervising, reviewing or mentoring junior accountants would be advantageous.
• Experience with Dext, Engager, TaxCalc or similar practice software would be beneficial.
• Exposure to management accounts, forecasting, funding or advisory services would be advantageous.
• Strong Microsoft Excel and Office skills.
