This opportunity is based within our city centre pharmacy operation which supports patients across the UK by dispensing and fulfilling online prescription orders that are delivered directly to patients through a postal service. Working alongside two other Assistant Managers and reporting to the Deputy Manager youll lead a team of around 30 colleagues in a fast-paced pharmacy-focused environment where operational excellence and patient care go hand in hand.

Youll lead and support your team day to day setting clear expectations coaching individuals and helping them grow while also taking ownership of how things run. From supporting the safe and efficient fulfilment of prescription orders to driving operational standards and performance youll be at the heart of it all.

This is a hands-on leadership role where youll be balancing people performance and operations leading your team shaping the experience for patients and colleagues and taking real ownership of how your area performs. What youll be doing

As Assistant Manager youll report into the Deputy Manager and work closely with the wider leadership team to support the day-to-day operation and performance of the pharmacy.

Leading a team of approximately 30 colleagues youll create a positive and supportive environment where people feel confident capable and motivated to perform at their best. Youll play a key role in ensuring prescription orders are fulfilled safely accurately and efficiently while maintaining high standards across the operation.

You will:

  • Lead your team to deliver strong performance while providing great care to customers and patient
  • Create a positive supportive team environment where people feel confident capable and motivated
  • Coach develop and line manage your team through regular conversations feedback and clear expectations and goals
  • Be responsible for the day-to-day running of your area including planning scheduling staffing and prioritising workload
  • Maintain high operational standards ensuring prescription orders are fulfilled safely accurately and efficiently
  • Take ownership of stock availability cost control and loss prevention
  • Ensure the operation is always safe legal and compliant by completing audits checks and risk assessments
  • Use data reports and operational insight to identify opportunities and take action
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance colleague and patient experience
  • Lead confidently in the absence of senior leaders taking accountability for decisions and performance

As part of the leadership team youll work a rotating shift pattern supporting the operation across its opening hours of 7:00am8:00pm Monday to Saturday and 9:00am3:00pm on Sunday. The role follows a two-week rotation working 7:00am3:00pm in week one and 12:00pm8:00pm in week two. Youll work one in every two Saturdays and receive a day off during the week when a Saturday is worked.


What youll need to have (our must-haves)

  • Experience leading and managing a team in a customer-facing operational or healthcare environment
  • Proven ability to take ownership of performance and drive a team to deliver results
  • Experience coaching developing and managing the performance of other
  • Strong organisational skills including planning rotas managing absence and prioritising workload
  • Confidence leading teams and making decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • A clear understanding of the importance of compliance safety and operational standards
  • A collaborative personality able to succeed in a team-centred environment
  • Confidence using systems reports and data to make decisions
  • Passionate about delivering both excellent customer care and strong operational outcomes


It would be great if you also have

  • Experience line managing larger teams
  • Experience managing store or operational processes such as stock control loss prevention audits or productivity measures
  • Experience working in a pharmacy healthcare fulfilment or other regulated environment
  • An NVQ2 in Pharmacy Services (or other UK equivalent) or a willingness to work towards a Pharmacy qualification
