Make a real difference where it matters most!

Do you want a role where every day has purpose? Where your work genuinely changes lives?

We’re looking for a passionate and resilient Rough Sleeper Outreach Worker to join our Housing Options team and play a vital role in helping to end rough sleeping across Stockport. This is more than a job, it’s an opportunity to support people at the most critical point in their lives and help them move towards safe, sustainable housing and brighter futures.

Working as part of the Greater Manchester Rough Sleeper Initiative, you’ll take a proactive, person-centred approach, meeting people where they are, building trust, and helping them take positive steps forward.

What you’ll be doing

  • Engaging directly with people sleeping rough, building trusted relationships
  • Developing personalised housing and support plans
  • Actively sourcing accommodation and removing barriers to access
  • Carrying out outreach, including early mornings, evenings, and flexible working patterns
  • Working in partnership with housing providers, health services, social care, and the police
  • Mediating with family and friends to help secure alternative accommodation where possible
  • Supporting Greater Manchester rough sleeper counts and wider initiatives
  • Identifying safeguarding concerns early and taking action to protect vulnerable individuals
  • Motivating and empowering people to move towards independence and stability

About you

You’re someone who thrives in a challenging but incredibly rewarding environment. You’re resilient, empathetic, and driven to make a difference.

You will have:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust quickly
  • Experience or understanding of homelessness and the challenges people face
  • Knowledge of housing legislation (e.g. Part 7 of the Housing Act 1996)
  • A flexible, proactive approach to outreach work
  • The ability to motivate and inspire positive change
  • Strong organisational skills, including accurate record keeping
  • A full driving licence and access to a vehicle

If you’re motivated by purpose and want to be part of meaningful change in your community, we’d love to hear from you. Apply now and be part of something life-changing.

The SHG “Be You” approach sums up our belief that everyone has the right to be who they are, and to be that person at work, in line with SHG’s Values. We’re always looking to improve diversity within our teams to enhance this culture and to be truly representative of the communities we work in.

This role will be on Skylight terms and conditions.

The successful applicant's appointment will be subject to satisfactory enhanced clearance by the Disclosure and Barring Service.

We understand that if you don't meet every requirement, you may be hesitant to apply but we still want to hear from you and encourage you to submit an application detailing your experiences, achievements, and the value you can bring to our team.

If you require any reasonable adjustments to complete your application, please contact the People & OD Team on .

Please note that we do not accept applications through third-party websites. To ensure your application is reviewed, please apply directly through our careers page.

We encourage you to apply early! We may close the vacancy sooner if we find the right candidate.
