An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Cheshire West and Chester Council's Finance Service as a Career Grade Senior Finance Assistant / Finance Officer (Grade –).

This career grade post offers a structured pathway for progression from Senior Finance Assistant (Grade ) to Finance Officer (Grade ), enabling the successful candidate to develop their skills, knowledge and experience within a supportive and professional finance environment. In addition, support will be provided to undertake a recognised professional accountancy qualification, such as CIPFA, helping you build a rewarding long-term career in local government finance.
This role provides a unique opportunity to gain experience across a range of accountancy disciplines within the Finance Service. Working alongside a variety of finance teams, the postholder will develop a broad understanding of local government finance and contribute to a diverse range of financial activities, projects and service areas.

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual who has some knowledge and experience of working within a local authority finance environment and is keen to further develop their professional skills and expertise. The successful candidate will be a confident communicator, capable of building effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders across the organisation.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential, alongside advanced Excel skills and the ability to interpret and work with complex financial data. You will be able to manage competing priorities, work effectively both independently and as part of a team, and support the delivery of high-quality financial services against key objectives and deadlines.
