Deaf Inclusion Worker

Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Part-Time
Pay: £95–£110 per day (depending on qualifications and experience)
Pay Schedule: Competitive Weekly Pay

We are seeking a compassionate, enthusiastic and dedicated Deaf Inclusion Worker to join local schools in the Exeter and East Devon area from September 2026. This rewarding part-time role offers the opportunity to make a real difference by supporting a pupil with a hearing impairment and developmental language delay to access all aspects of school life, achieve their full potential and develop independence.

Working alongside teaching staff and specialist professionals, you will play a key role in promoting communication, inclusion and equal access to learning within a supportive and inclusive school environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build a positive, trusting relationship with the pupil, promoting confidence, wellbeing and full participation in all aspects of school life.
  • Support the development of speech, language and communication skills through the consistent use of visual strategies, language modelling, structured communication activities and signing where appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with class teachers, the Teacher of the Deaf, Speech and Language Therapy professionals and other specialists to deliver personalised support programmes and implement specialist recommendations.
  • Adapt learning materials, classroom activities and communication to ensure the pupil has full access to the curriculum while encouraging independence and resilience.
  • Promote inclusion by supporting effective communication between the pupil and their peers during lessons, breaktimes, educational visits and wider school activities.
  • Support the daily use, monitoring and care of hearing aids and assistive listening technology, encouraging the pupil to develop self-advocacy and increasing independence.
  • Champion an inclusive environment by promoting deaf awareness and supporting staff to use effective communication strategies where appropriate.

About You

The successful candidate will:

  • Have experience of supporting children or young people with hearing impairment, speech, language and communication needs, or special educational needs.
  • Have a good understanding of inclusive practice and a commitment to ensuring every child can access learning and participate fully in school life.
  • Be an excellent communicator with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families, colleagues and external professionals.
  • Be patient, proactive, adaptable and able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • British Sign Language (BSL) skills are desirable, although training and professional development may be available for the right candidate
