Electrical Senior Authorised Person (SAP) Manager - Severn Trent Water

Location - Midlands

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Electrical Senior Authorised Person (SAP) Manager to join the team at Galliford Try within our Environment Business.

Ideally, you will be based in or around the Midlands and will have the opportunity to travel across multiple sites/projects in the Severn Trent region.

You will work on our Severn Trent Water Framework within our Environment Business, who are experienced in successfully delivering schemes of varying sizes, predominately to the Water Industry, across both Treatment and Water schemes.

What you will be doing:

This is a highly demanding key role with key inputs throughout the project lifecycle within the Severn Trent Region/Framework delivery. As Electrical Senior Authorised Person (SAP) Manager, you will be a designated Severn Trent Mentor, appointed under the Severn Trent process, responsible for coordinating Electrical Site Safety Agreements alongside the management, oversight and electrical appointed person duties under the Galliford Try Electrical Safety Rules. You will be the Severn Trent (Midlands) Electrical Safety Subject Matter Expert (SME), representing Galliford Try at Severn Trent electrical safety management forums to promote best practice and provide clear ownership and leadership.

You will also act as the Galliford Try regional electrical installation SME, promoting and ensuring the delivery of electrical installation packages meets UK legislation and Galliford Try process and procedures, and assisting in ensuring electrical packages are delivered in a timely, right-first-time manner with all relevant inspection and test documentation.

You will be responsible for implementing and maintaining electrical safe systems of work in accordance with Site Health and Safety Management procedures on the projects under your control, including regular assessment of new risks and hazards not already covered by existing safety documentation.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead electrical safety across the Galliford Try Severn Trent region, and represent Galliford Try at Severn Trent Water (STW) Electrical Forums
  • Act as the appointed STW SAP Mentor and the point of contact for STW SAPs, attending STW SAP meetings
  • Act as the electrical safety management point of contact for the Galliford Try Severn Trent region
  • Coordinate between project management and GT STW SAPs, including labour resource and booking requests, as the single point of contact for booking and allocating LV GT STW SAPs to projects
  • Carry out GT STW SAP duties, including receiving and cancelling Electrical Site Safety Agreements from the STW Senior Authorised Person, undertaking low-voltage switching operations, and controlling work on low-voltage systems in line with Galliford Try Electrical Safety Rules
  • Complete the STW SAP training course and assessment, and report any dangerous occurrences or accidents
  • Audit GT STW SAPs and GT Authorised Persons in conjunction with the Galliford Try Authorising Engineers and Electrical Safety Rules
  • Audit electrical site activities and promote good electrical practice, ensuring consistent application of the Galliford Try and Severn Trent Water Electrical Safety Rules and Codes of Practice
  • Mentor and assess new and current GT STW SAPs in conjunction with the Galliford Try Authorising Engineers
  • Where more than one GT STW SAP is on site, ensure the person named in the Project Management Plan (PMP) is responsible for control of electrical safety on site
  • Maintain the Site Safety Agreement tracker, ensure RAMS are sent with requests for LV GT STW SAP works, and maintain document control management
  • Develop, implement and continuously improve processes for managing electrical work on Severn Trent Water projects, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including Severn Trent Water representatives, Galliford Try project teams and contractors, keeping them informed and engaged on electrical safety and process improvements
  • Identify training needs for LV SAPs and other electrical personnel, and coordinate training programmes to enhance competence and compliance
  • Promote a strong safety culture and proactive safety management among Galliford Try and contractors on Severn Trent Water projects
  • Stay current on regulations, standards and industry best practice affecting electrical work on projects
  • Promote and review electrical installation across the Galliford Try Severn Trent portfolio
  • Work with Galliford Try project electrical engineers to ensure a full understanding of the electrical requirements of the project, including delivery under Galliford Try quality systems and compliance with inspection and test check processes
  • Support the design team with technical support on electrical systems issues
  • Ensure all electrical installation works meet the technical requirements of the project, including client specifications, Asset Standards and, where applicable, the Water Industry Mechanical and Electrical Standards (WIMES)
  • Ensure the latest Galliford Try electrical processes and procedures are adhered to, and coordinate electrical activities with Galliford Try and subcontract resources to meet project requirements and programme
  • Ensure all electrical testing is carried out in line with the Inspection and Test Plan

About You:

  • Ideally you will have a career background in the Water or similar industry
  • Be able to demonstrate the ability in site management and delivery of electrical installation, and manage the interface with the Client on a regular basis, including the prompt resolution of issues affecting project progress
  • Be able to demonstrate electrical installation delivery through to successful project takeover
  • Have a good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office applications to facilitate the creation and presentation of reports as required
  • Be able to demonstrate an understanding of health, safety and environmental approaches
  • Be able to demonstrate an understanding of water industry processes
  • Be able to demonstrate an understanding of mechanical and electrical equipment used in the water industry

Training Requirements:

  • HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • CSCS or ECS card in an appropriate discipline
  • EUSR National Water Hygiene Card
  • SMSTS (preferred) with SSSTS (minimum)
  • First Aid at Work (preferred)
  • BS Requirements for Electrical Installations – th Edition
  • City and Guilds or & Test and Inspect
  • City & Guilds Authorised Person Module
  • DSEAR awareness (preferred), CompEx FxF or equivalent
