This role will act as the company's appointed Transport Manager, protect our operator's licence, and ensure our fleet is safe, compliant, efficient and cost effective.

Duties & Responsibilities

Act as the appointed Transport Manager for Dash Logistix, ensuring the business meets all Operator Licence, DVSA, traffic commissioner and transport compliance requirements.

Protect the company's operator's licence by maintaining strong systems, accurate records and a proactive approach to compliance.

Take overall responsibility for the Dash Logistix fleet, covering vans, rigid vehicles, artics, trailers and any other operational vehicles used across the business.

Manage all fleet compliance activity, including inspection planning, maintenance schedules, MOTs, defect processes, vehicle records and audit readiness.

Work closely with Depot General Managers to ensure all vehicle and trailer defects are reported, managed, followed up and closed out properly.

Ensure all vehicles and trailers are maintained to the highest standards and are safe, legal, roadworthy and fit for purpose at all times.

Manage fleet utilisation across the business, making sure Dash Logistix has the right vehicles and trailers in the right locations to meet operational demand.

Manage vehicle rentals and ad hoc vehicle requirements, ensuring short-term fleet needs are met quickly, safely and cost effectively.

Review rental, maintenance, repair and supplier arrangements to ensure the business is getting the best deals and value for money.

Work with the Fleet Manager to plan vehicle availability, maintenance downtime, replacements, inspections and day-to-day fleet requirements.

Line manage the Fleet Manager, setting clear priorities, standards and expectations for fleet control, compliance and performance.

Oversee in-vehicle technology across the fleet, including cameras, tracking systems and other vehicle-based systems, ensuring they are fit for purpose, properly maintained and used effectively.

Work with the group's vehicle business on fleet procurement, vehicle specification, replacement planning and disposal decisions.

Take control of vehicle signwriting, ensuring all vehicles and trailers are presented professionally and the company brand is maintained consistently across the fleet.

Monitor and manage service, maintenance and repair costs, challenging spend where required and identifying opportunities to reduce cost without compromising safety or compliance.

Reduce avoidable fleet costs linked to vehicle damage, breakdowns, call-outs, poor utilisation and repeat defects.

Build strong working relationships with suppliers, maintenance providers, dealerships, rental providers, technology providers and external partners to ensure value, service quality and timely support.

Drive best practice across fleet, compliance, maintenance, technology, branding and defect management, ensuring consistent standards are followed across all sites.

Provide clear reporting on fleet performance, compliance status, defects, downtime, utilisation, technology performance, rental use, breakdowns, call-outs and maintenance costs.

Support operational teams with transport compliance advice, guidance and practical solutions.

What We're Looking For

CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) qualification essential.

Must be able to demonstrate and maintain good repute and professional competence, with a thorough understanding of the legal responsibilities associated with the Transport Manager role under Operator Licensing regulations.

Proven experience in transport management, fleet management or a senior transport compliance role within logistics, distribution or a similar operating environment.

Confident working with depot teams, managers, drivers, suppliers and external maintenance providers.

Strong attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accurate records and prepare for audits or compliance checks.

Commercially aware, with experience managing service, maintenance, repair and fleet-related costs.

Practical problem solver who can balance operational demand with compliance, safety and cost control.
