Job description

Winthrop Technologies is Europe’s only dedicated data centre delivery partner, offering full turnkey solutions from design through to construction and commissioning. Headquartered in Dublin, we deliver projects across Europe and have become the most trusted name in our sector.

We are currently seeking an experienced Crane Appointed Person to join our team on a major Data Centre project, in Blyth, United Kingdom. This is a site-based role with responsibility for the planning, coordination, and safe execution of all lifting operations, ensuring full compliance with statutory requirements, company procedures, and best practice.

Responsibilities:

  • Take overall responsibility for the management, organisation, planning, and control of all lifting operations on the project.
  • Develop, review, approve, and issue Lift Plans for all lifting activities, ensuring they are suitable, sufficient, and fully compliant with statutory requirements and project standards.
  • Ensure that all lifting operations are fully planned and controlled, with no activities overlooked or undertaken without an approved Lift Plan.
  • Manage and oversee all Appointed Persons (APs) under their control, ensuring:
  • Roles, interfaces, levels of authority, and areas of responsibility are clearly defined and understood.
  • All APs are formally appointed in writing following verification of their competence.
  • Assign mentors to Appointed Persons where required, supporting professional development and providing guidance to newly qualified or less experienced APs.
  • Provide ongoing support to APs, actively seeking feedback and addressing any issues or concerns raised.
  • Ensure the Lift Supervisor and all members of the lifting team are fully briefed on the scope, contents, and limitations of each Lift Plan prior to execution.
  • Confirm that Lift Plans are only issued once adequate review and approval has been completed, and all identified issues or risks have been satisfactorily addressed.
  • Monitor lifting operations on site to ensure compliance with approved Lift Plans, stopping works where unsafe practices or deviations are identified.
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety-first culture, ensuring lifting operations are executed in line with best practice and project safety objectives.

Requirements

  • CPCS Appointed Person (A61) or equivalent recognised lifting operations qualification.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience planning and managing crane lifting operations on large-scale construction, engineering, or data centre projects.
  • Strong knowledge of BS 7121, lifting legislation, and industry best practices.
  • Proven ability to develop lift plans, risk assessments, and method statements for routine and complex lifts.
  • Experience coordinating crane operators, lifting teams, and subcontractors on live construction sites.
  • Excellent planning, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Full driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.

Desirable

    • Experience on hyperscale data centre or mission-critical projects.
    • Additional health & safety qualifications.
    • Experience working across multiple sites or European projects.

Benefits

    • Work with a market leader in the Data centre Construction industry
    • Be part of a forward-thinking team delivering critical infrastructure in a high-growth sector
    • Long-term career progression opportunities and professional development support.
    • Competitive salary packages
