Job description
Attendance Officer – Primary School – Sunderland Start Date: As soon as possible Contract: Full-Time, Permanent Salary: Paid to scale A friendly and inclusive primary school in Sunderland is seeking a dedicated Attendance Officer to join its experienced pastoral and administrative team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who understands the importance of attendance in supporting children's educational achievement and enjoys building positive relationships with families. Working closely with the Headteacher, Inclusion Lead and school office, you will monitor attendance, support families where concerns arise and help develop strategies that encourage excellent attendance and punctuality across the school. The successful candidate will be highly organised, compassionate and committed to ensuring every child has the opportunity to attend school regularly and achieve their full potential. Attendance Team The Attendance Team plays a vital role in promoting excellent attendance while working proactively with families to remove barriers to education. As Attendance Officer, your responsibilities will include: Monitoring daily attendance and punctuality. Contacting parents regarding unexplained absences. Maintaining accurate attendance records. Producing attendance reports for school leaders. Identifying attendance trends and patterns. Working with families to improve attendance. Liaising with external agencies where appropriate. Supporting attendance meetings and intervention plans. Ensuring statutory attendance procedures are followed. Updating the school's management information system. Supporting safeguarding and pastoral teams where required. Assisting with general administrative duties during busy periods. The successful candidate will become part of a caring and dedicated team committed to ensuring every child benefits from regular attendance and positive engagement with school. Requirements Previous school administration or attendance experience is desirable. Excellent organisational skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Good IT skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality. High attention to detail. Professional and empathetic approach. Ability to build positive relationships with families. Commitment to safeguarding.
