Job description
Start Date: September 2026 Contract: Full-time, Permanent (Year-Round Framework) Salary: Paid to scale (Support Staff Framework, Fringe Weighting) The Role A progressive Secondary Academy in Slough is seeking a professional, highly organized, and technically skilled Premises Manager to oversee the physical operations, security, and maintenance of their school estate. This position is perfect for an experienced site supervisor, assistant premises manager, or skilled trade specialist ready to step into a leadership role managing a dedicated on-site team of caretakers and maintenance staff. The successful candidate will take strategic and operational responsibility for the daily upkeep, safety compliance, and mechanical operations of the school campus. Key responsibilities include coordinating the caretaking team’s shift schedules, managing reactive maintenance tickets on the school's digital helpdesk, and acting as the primary point of contact for external maintenance contractors. You will also take hands-on ownership of the school’s statutory testing schedules—including weekly fire alarm checks, water hygiene logs (Legionella prevention), emergency lighting tests, and security asset tracking. You will work closely with the Business Manager to draft capital works bids, monitor utility usage profiles, and ensure the estate is fully compliant with all health and safety legislation (COSHH and HASAWA frameworks). School Information This is an 11 to 18 well-established Academy in Slough with a powerful commitment to technical innovation, student inclusion, and staff welfare. The school features a modern campus with excellent practical workspaces, sports facilities, and recently upgraded mechanical systems. The premises department is highly respected and integrated into the wider school community. The academy offers an excellent operational budget, a dedicated facilities workshop, and fully funded pathways for specialized safety training and professional development (such as IOSH or NEBOSH certification). Requirements Proven experience in a premises maintenance, caretaking, or estates team leadership role, ideally within an educational environment Solid working knowledge of current health and safety regulations, COSHH guidelines, and statutory building compliance Strong practical skills in general building maintenance (e.g., basic plumbing, carpentry, physical fabric repairs) Good IT literacy, with absolute confidence using digital facilities management software and tracking registers Exceptional organizational and leadership skills, with a collaborative, proactive approach to problem-solving Application To apply, please send your comprehensive CV as soon as possible.
