Job description

About ERM

ERM is the world’s largest pure-play sustainability consultancy and has been recognised as a leader in the ESG and Sustainability Consultancy industry through independent research. We work with over 50% of the Fortune Global 500 and support organisations in translating sustainability ambitions into practical outcomes.

Our diverse team of world-class experts combines deep technical expertise with strategic insight to help clients address complex environmental, regulatory, and sustainability challenges. We call this our “boots to boardroom” approach — delivering solutions that create value from operational implementation through to executive decision-making.

The Opportunity

ERM is seeking an experienced regulatory professional to join our Chemicals Regulatory (ChemReg) team as a REACH Regulatory Manager. This role offers a unique opportunity to manage and grow a portfolio of large industry clients (individual companies as well as consortia), working at the interface between regulatory compliance, project management, and stakeholder engagement.

You will be responsible for coordinating consortium activities, driving strategic and operational programmes, managing relationships with member companies and industry stakeholders, and ensuring delivery of high-quality regulatory outcomes. You will work closely with ERM's multidisciplinary team of regulatory, toxicology, exposure, risk assessment, and product stewardship specialists across Europe and globally.

This position is ideal for an individual who combines strong regulatory expertise with exceptional communication, facilitation, and programme management skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day management of REACH consortia and industry collaborations.
  • Act as the primary contact for consortium members and governance bodies.
  • Coordinate consortium work programmes, budgets, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Facilitate steering committees, technical working groups, and member meetings.
  • Coordinate technical experts involved in REACH and CLP activities.
  • Support strategic planning and decision-making related to regulatory compliance programmes.
  • Monitor and communicate regulatory developments affecting consortium activities.
  • Manage external service providers, including technical consultants and contract research organisations (CROs).
  • Ensure effective governance, documentation, communication, and financial management of consortium activities.

What We Are Looking For

Essential

  • Degree in Chemistry, Toxicology, Environmental Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Regulatory Affairs, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Proven experience managing complex projects, programmes, or industry consortia.
  • Strong understanding of EU REACH and CLP regulations.
  • Experience supporting REACH registration activities, dossier maintenance, or registration strategies.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior representatives from industry, trade associations, and regulatory bodies.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Strong facilitation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.

Desirable

  • Experience in consortium management, industry associations, or multi-company collaborations.
  • Familiarity with REACH-IT, IUCLID, and related regulatory systems.
  • Experience coordinating CROs, study programmes, and data-sharing activities.
  • Knowledge of Chemical Safety Assessments (CSA), Chemical Safety Reports (CSR), and exposure/risk assessment tools.
  • Experience working within consultancy, the chemical industry, or regulatory service organisations.

Why Join ERM?

This is an excellent career opportunity for a regulatory professional looking to combine scientific expertise with strategic stakeholder engagement and programme leadership.

At ERM, you will join one of the largest and most respected chemicals regulatory teams globally, working alongside experts in REACH, CLP, toxicology, exposure science, ecotoxicology, environmental fate, product stewardship, and sustainability. ERM and ReachCentrum manage a significant portfolio of regulatory programmes and consortium activities across the chemicals sector.
