Job description
Housing & Support Worker

A compassionate Housing & Support Worker is required to support women and children in specialist supported accommodation, providing housing advice, safeguarding, advocacy and person-centred support.

SALARY: £29,000 per annum

LOCATION: Harrow, North West London

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent

WORKING HOURS: 35 Hours per Week working Monday to Friday, working 8.30am to 5pm including a half hour unpaid break

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Housing & Support Worker to join a specialist supported accommodation service helping women and children rebuild safer, more independent futures.

As a Housing & Support Worker you will manage a caseload of residents, delivering practical and emotional support, advocacy, safety planning and housing guidance tailored to each woman’s needs.

This Housing & Support Worker role would suit someone who is calm under pressure, trauma-informed and committed to making a meaningful difference in a varied onsite support environment.

DUTIES

Your duties as the Housing & Support Worker include:

• Resident Support: Provide practical and emotional support to women and their children, building trust and promoting confidence, safety and independence

• Support Planning: Develop personalised support plans, risk assessments and safety plans, carrying out regular key work sessions and reviewing progress

• Housing and Wellbeing Advice: Support residents with housing, benefits, finances, wellbeing, parenting, legal matters and access to community services

• Admissions and Move-On: Welcome new residents through admissions and induction, coordinate move-on planning and help residents prepare for independent living

• Advocacy and Partnership Working: Liaise with housing providers, health services, police, social care, solicitors and partner agencies on behalf of residents

• Safeguarding and Records: Promote safeguarding, respond appropriately to risk and maintain accurate confidential case records and documentation

• Refuge Environment: Help maintain a safe, welcoming and well-managed refuge through health and safety checks, property inspections and reporting repairs

• Participation and Tenancy Support: Monitor rent and service charge payments, support tenancy responsibilities and encourage participation through meetings and life skills activities

We're looking for someone who is passionate about supporting women and understands the importance of trauma-informed, person-centred practice.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL

• Experience supporting vulnerable adults within housing, domestic abuse, homelessness or another support setting

• A good understanding of domestic abuse, coercive control, trauma and the impact of violence against women and girls

• Experience carrying out support planning, risk assessments and safeguarding

• Knowledge of housing, welfare benefits and tenancy sustainment

• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

• Strong organisational skills with accurate record keeping

• Confidence using Microsoft Office and digital case management systems

• Ability to work independently, prioritise effectively and remain calm in challenging situations

DESIRABLE

• Experience working within a residential domestic abuse or refuge service

• Knowledge of housing law or homelessness pathways

• A relevant qualification in housing, social care, VAWG or community support
