Job description

ADHD Support Assistant | St Helen's, Merseyside

Are you passionate about supporting children with ADHD to thrive academically, socially and emotionally?

Teaching Personnel is proud to be working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in WA9 to recruit an experienced ADHD Support Assistant for a full-time position starting in October 2026.

This is far more than a classroom support role. It's an opportunity to empower children with ADHD to build confidence, develop positive learning behaviours and achieve success in an environment where every child is valued as an individual.

If you're patient, proactive and committed to making a lasting difference, we'd love to hear from you.

Location: St Helen's WA9
Contract: Full-time
Start Date: October 2026
Pay: £14.25 to £16.77 per hour

You'll benefit from:

  • A welcoming, collaborative and highly supportive staff team.
  • Strong leadership with a commitment to staff wellbeing and work-life balance.
  • A well-resourced learning environment focused on inclusion and pupil success.
  • Opportunities to work alongside experienced SEN professionals and external specialists.
  • The chance to make a measurable impact on pupils' confidence, behaviour and educational outcomes every day.

Your Role

As an ADHD Support Assistant, you'll work closely with class teachers, the SENCO and external professionals to provide tailored support for pupils with ADHD.

Your role will include:

  • Delivering one-to-one and small group support to pupils with ADHD.
  • Implementing personalised strategies identified within EHCPs and individual support plans.
  • Helping pupils remain engaged, focused and confident throughout the school day.
  • Supporting emotional regulation and developing positive behaviour strategies.
  • Encouraging independence, resilience and positive social interactions.
  • Monitoring progress and providing meaningful feedback to teachers and parents.
  • Working collaboratively to ensure every child receives consistent, high-quality support.

Every day will bring new opportunities to positively influence children's learning experiences and help them overcome barriers to success.

What We're Looking For

We're seeking someone who brings enthusiasm, empathy and a genuine commitment to inclusive education.

You'll ideally have:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with ADHD, autism or other additional learning needs.
  • A good understanding of neurodiversity and inclusive classroom practice.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach to supporting behaviour.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to adapt to pupils' individual needs.

A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant SEN training is desirable but not essential. Most importantly, we're looking for someone who is passionate about helping every child succeed.

Salary & Benefits

  • Competitive hourly pay of £14.25 to £16.77 per hour, depending on experience.
  • Weekly pay through Teaching Personnel PAYE - no fees.
  • Full-time, term-time opportunity (temp to perm).
  • Access to a wide range of exclusive school vacancies across Merseyside.
  • Dedicated support from your specialist Teaching Personnel consultant (5 star google reviews).

Invest in Your Future

You'll have access to:

  • High-quality CPD and specialist SEN training.
  • Safeguarding and behaviour management courses.
  • Opportunities to broaden your experience across specialist provisions.
  • Ongoing career guidance and progression into higher-level support roles or teacher training.
