Job description

Some children need a little extra support to help them succeed. That's where you come in.

We're looking for a compassionate, resilient and positive Behaviour Support Mentor to join a friendly primary school, supporting pupils across Key Stage 2. If you're someone who can build trust, stay calm under pressure and help children make positive choices, this could be the perfect role for you.

Every day is different, but every day is an opportunity to make a lasting difference.

What you'll be doing

As a Behaviour Support Mentor, you'll work closely with pupils who need additional support with their emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement in learning.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Building strong, positive relationships with pupils through consistency, patience and encouragement.
  • Supporting children both inside and outside the classroom to help them stay engaged in learning.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and helping pupils develop strategies to regulate their emotions.
  • Working one-to-one and in small groups to improve confidence, resilience and social skills.
  • Encouraging pupils to build healthy relationships with their peers and adults.
  • Working alongside teachers and the school's inclusion team to implement behaviour support plans.
  • Monitoring progress and providing regular feedback on behaviour, wellbeing and engagement.
  • Helping to create a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment where every child can thrive.
  • Following all safeguarding, behaviour and health and safety procedures.

We'd love to hear from you if you:

  • Have experience supporting children or young people with behavioural, social or emotional needs.
  • Can build rapport quickly and earn children's trust.
  • Remain calm, patient and positive, even during challenging situations.
  • Have experience in schools, SEND settings, youth work, coaching, residential care or mentoring.
  • Are passionate about helping children reach their full potential.
  • Work well as part of a supportive and collaborative team.

Why you'll love this role

  • Make a genuine difference in children's lives every single day.
  • Join a welcoming and supportive school community.
  • Work alongside experienced teachers and pastoral staff.
  • Access ongoing training and professional development.
  • Gain valuable experience for careers in education, psychology, counselling or youth work.

Flexible working options

Although this role is advertised as full time (32.5 hours per week), applications from candidates seeking two or three full working days per week are also welcome. Job share arrangements will be considered.

Safeguarding

This role is subject to enhanced safeguarding checks, including an Enhanced DBS and satisfactory references. The successful candidate will be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and are committed to building an inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued, respected and able to succeed.

Why work with Protocol Education?
