This role offers the opportunity to provide essential patient care alongside theatre services, working across specialties including general surgery, ENT, and gynaecology.

As a Ward Nurse, you will be responsible for delivering safe, effective, and patient-centred care, supporting patients pre- and post-operatively. You will assess, plan, and implement care, ensuring patients are well-prepared for surgery and receive appropriate monitoring and support during recovery on the ward.

Working within a structured shift pattern, you will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure smooth patient flow, maintain high clinical standards, and contribute to efficient service delivery. This role requires flexibility to work early and late shifts on a rotational basis across weekends, within a supportive and well-established team environment

  • Manage wound care, drains, and dressings relevant to each specialty
  • Administer medications, including pain relief, antibiotics, and IV therapies
  • Support post-operative recovery, including mobility, nutrition, and personal care
  • Observe for complications (e.g. bleeding in gynae, airway/swallowing issues in ENT, infection in general surgery)
  • Provide patient education on recovery, wound care, and discharge instructions
  • Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including doctors, therapists, and discharge coordinators
  • Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation in line with NHS standards
  • Ensure infection prevention and control measures are followed at all times
