Job description
Job summary
The post holder will provide clinical and medical support to the patients on the Oncology ward, Outpatient Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy Units, through the provision of general patient care and medical procedures. Out of hours, the day case chemotherapy unit is closed. To cover the haematology ward at night and at weekends. To work closely with the Consultants and nursing staff to support patient treatments and management of symptom control, as appropriate.

Main duties of the job
  • Act in accordance with GMC standards registered body and demonstrate the core values and code of conduct of the clinic.
  • Adhere to and promote The London Clinic policies/procedures and guidelines related to both professional practice and general issues.
  • Ensure mandatory training is completed in a timely manner and is maintained on an ongoing basis.
  • Ensure compliance with appropriate regulatory and best practice frameworks.
  • Pursue personal professional education and development in line with GMC guidelines, ensuring that revalidation requirements are met.
  • Ensure daily clear documentation in notes and ensure the maintenance of essential documentation. Liaise with the relevant Consultants and their secretaries as necessary.
  • To ensure discharge summary is completed for all in-patients and a copy is given to the patient.
  • To maintain a high standard of work and uphold the professional image of The London Clinic.
  • To maintain a safe working environment in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations.
  • To respect the confidentiality of all matters that arise in relation to patients, families, staff and colleagues as per professional standards / guidance.
  • To consistently demonstrate the values of the clinic in the work you do and support working as one with the teams To undertake any other tasks appropriate to grade and capabilities as required by the clinical line manager, or Medical Director.

The role: We are currently looking to recruit a Bank Non-Resident Fellow - Oncology to provide clinical and medical support to patients across the Oncology Ward, Outpatient Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy Units, and Haematology services. The successful candidate will work closely with Consultants and multidisciplinary teams to support patient treatment, symptom management, and the delivery of high-quality care. You will be responsible for assessing and managing patients, undertaking routine clinical procedures, maintaining accurate clinical records, and escalating clinical concerns appropriately. This is an excellent opportunity for a doctor with acute medical experience who enjoys working in a specialist oncology environment.

Key Duties
  • Provide clinical and medical support to patients within Oncology and Haematology services.
  • Assess and manage patients presenting with acute oncological symptoms and acute medical conditions.
  • Support Consultants and nursing staff in patient treatment, symptom control and ongoing care management.
  • Perform routine clinical procedures expected of a clinician in training.
  • Monitor deteriorating patients and take appropriate action, escalating concerns when required.
  • Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive patient documentation and clinical records.
  • Complete discharge summaries for all inpatient episodes of care.
  • Interpret routine investigations including blood results, blood gases, ECGs and chest X-rays.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, Consultants and colleagues regarding patient care and treatment plans.
  • Adhere to GMC standards, hospital policies, governance frameworks and mandatory training requirements.
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe, effective and high-quality patient care environment.

Skills and Experience
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Intermediate Life Support qualification.
  • Completion of Foundation Training (FY1/FY2) or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years' post-qualification medical or surgical experience.
  • Experience in acute medicine and/or high dependency or intensive care settings.
  • Ability to independently assess, prioritise and manage acutely unwell patients.
  • Strong clinical decision-making skills with an understanding of appropriate escalation.
  • Ability to interpret routine clinical investigations and diagnostic results.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with Consultants and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Previous experience working within an independent healthcare setting (Desirable).
  • Oncology or haematology experience (Desirable).

  • Have experience of acute medicine and high dependency / intensive care and be confident in the initial management of a deteriorating patient

  • Previous experience of working within an independent hospital
