Job description
SEN Learning Support Assistant

Blackley, Manchester
September 2026 Start

Teaching Personnel is working with a specialist secondary and post-16 setting in Blackley to recruit a dedicated SEN Learning Support Assistant for the new academic year.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking for a rewarding role where they can have a genuine impact on the educational journey of young people with additional needs. The school supports pupils with a range of learning disabilities and associated needs, providing tailored support to help every learner engage, develop independence, and achieve their individual goals.

The school caters for pupils across KS3, KS4 and Post-16, with all students holding an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Staff work closely together to create a nurturing and structured environment where pupils feel supported, challenged, and valued.

The Role

Working alongside teachers, therapists and support staff, you will play an important part in helping pupils access learning and navigate their school day successfully.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
  • Encouraging engagement and participation in lessons.
  • Promoting independence, communication, and social development.
  • Supporting pupils with emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies.
  • Assisting with personal care where required.
  • Helping to create a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment.
  • Supporting pupils during transitions, break times, and enrichment activities.
  • Adapting your approach to meet the individual needs of different learners.

No two days are the same, making this an ideal role for someone who enjoys variety and can respond confidently to changing situations.

What the School Is Looking For

Applications are welcomed from individuals who are patient, proactive, and passionate about supporting young people with additional needs.

The school would particularly value someone who:

  • Is confident using their own initiative and can think on their feet.
  • Is comfortable providing personal care support with dignity and professionalism.
  • Can build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Remains calm and resilient when supporting learners who may display challenging behaviours.
  • Works well as part of a supportive and proactive staff team.
  • Has experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable adults.
  • Holds Team Teach training or is willing to undertake relevant training.
  • Has a genuine commitment to helping students achieve their full potential.

Why Apply Through Teaching Personnel?

  • Competitive weekly pay.
  • Access to CPD opportunities and specialist SEN training.
  • Ongoing support from a dedicated consultant.
  • Opportunities for long-term placements and permanent positions.
  • The chance to gain valuable experience within a specialist educational setting.

If you're looking for a challenging yet highly rewarding role and believe you have the resilience, initiative, and compassion needed to support pupils with complex needs, we'd love to hear from you.
