Job description

  • SEND Teaching Assistant
  • Year 3
  • Edgware
  • Full-time
  • Start Date: September 2026
  • Ongoing until July 2027

An outstanding two-form entry primary school in Edgware is seeking an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis. This is a rewarding long-term opportunity, with the role continuing until July 2026.

The Role

You will provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil in Year 3 with Autism and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The pupil accesses the mainstream curriculum with the right support but can become dysregulated at times and may display behaviours that are physically challenging. The successful candidate will be confident in using positive behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques to help the pupil regulate their emotions and re-engage with learning.

This role is ideal for an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant who is confident planning and adapting learning to meet individual needs. You will work closely with the class teacher and wider SEND team to provide consistent, nurturing support and help the pupil make excellent progress.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing 1:1 support for a Year 3 pupil with Autism and SEMH needs.
  • Planning and adapting learning activities to meet the pupil's individual needs.
  • Supporting the pupil's academic, social and emotional development.
  • Using effective de-escalation strategies and positive behaviour management techniques to support emotional regulation.
  • Working collaboratively with the class teacher, SENDCo and wider school team.
  • Encouraging independence, resilience and positive engagement in learning.

The pupil speaks Turkish, so applicants who speak Turkish would be at an advantage, although this is not essential.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will have:

  • Previous experience supporting children with SEND, particularly Autism and SEMH.
  • Experience managing behaviours that challenge using a calm, consistent and nurturing approach.
  • Confidence using positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
  • Confidence planning and adapting learning activities to meet individual needs.
  • Experience supporting pupils in Year 2 and/or Year 3.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

About the School

This outstanding, diverse and welcoming two-form entry primary school in Edgware is committed to providing an inclusive environment where every child is encouraged to reach their full potential. The school has high expectations for all pupils and places great importance on building strong relationships with families.

Pupils benefit from a broad and engaging curriculum alongside a strong focus on their social and emotional wellbeing. Staff are supported by an experienced leadership team and work within a collaborative, positive school community where professional development is encouraged.

If you are an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding long-term role within a supportive and inclusive primary school, we would love to hear from you. Please apply today with your up-to-date CV.

We have a policy to respond to all applications within three working days. However, because of the volume of applications, we are sometimes unable to reply to individual enquiries.
