Job summary
We are looking for an ambitious Biomedical Scientist to join our dedicated team within North West London Pathology. Applications are sought from self-motivated individuals with experience of working in a busy Clinical Chemistry department.

You will be instrumental in delivering, maintaining and developing the high-quality services our laboratory provides, maintaining our quality management system, assisting senior biomedical scientists with monitoring and managing quality assessment, key performance indicator reviews and ensuring our clinical users receive the best care possible.

The Clinical Chemistry department provides a large repertoire of tests including routine clinical chemistry, emergency department blood borne virus screening, endocrinology services, therapeutic drug monitoring and xanthochromia spectrophotometry.

Your ability to communicate effectively and work independently or collaboratively, and proudly lead a service day-to-day will make you a perfect fit for our team. Although this post is primarily clinical chemistry, applicants with a multi-disciplinary background may have the opportunity to undertake a brief rotation to maintain skills in haematology and blood transfusion.

Main duties of the job
  • Collaborate effectively within the department to deliver a professional clinical laboratoryservice.
  • Perform core scientific and interpretive work in line with the qualifications of a Registered Healthcare Scientist.
  • Participate in appropriate training courses and continuous professional development (CPD) programs.
  • Supervise unqualified staff and deputise for section leaders as needed.
  • Provide specialist clinical technical services, including involvement in research and audit activities.
  • Delivery of comprehensive diagnostic services while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.

Person Specification
Education / Qualification
Essential
  • Biomedical Science degree or equivalent which is acceptable by the IBMS /HPC for registration
  • HCPC Registration and clear understanding of Code of Conduct and Professional Standards of the HCPC
  • IBMS Specialist Diploma or demonstrate the equivalent depth and breadth of knowledge in the relevant discipline evidenced by competency documents or equivalent
  • Actively involved in Continuing Professional Development.

Skills/knowledge/ abilities
Essential
  • Good practical analytical skills associated with diagnostic laboratory work
  • Able to provide judgment on a range of complex problems
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office or similar
  • Good interpretive skills at bench level

Desirable
  • Customer Service experience

Experience
Essential
  • A good working knowledge of specialist subject in relevant discipline
  • Use of Pathology computer systems

Desirable
  • Previous experience in a large busy laboratory
