About the role

This is a varied HR advisory role with a strong focus on employee relations, absence, performance and manager support.

You will act as a trusted point of contact for managers and employees, helping resolve workplace matters fairly, consistently and in line with UK employment legislation. You will manage routine employee relations cases independently and work closely with the HR Manager on more complex or higher-risk matters.

Alongside casework, you will support key stages of the employee lifecycle, including contracts, onboarding, probation, payroll changes and employee records. You will also contribute to HR reporting, policy improvements and projects designed to improve the employee experience.

The role would suit an existing HR Advisor or an experienced Senior HR Coordinator who is ready to take greater ownership of employee relations and develop their advisory experience within a growing organisation.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Provide clear and practical HR advice to managers and employees on policies, procedures and employment matters.
• Manage routine disciplinary, grievance, absence, capability and performance cases from initial advice through to resolution.
• Support managers with investigations, formal meetings, hearings and outcome documentation.
• Recognise potential employment risks and escalate complex or sensitive cases to the HR Manager.
• Support managers with probation reviews, performance improvement plans, return-to-work meetings and absence reviews.
• Coordinate occupational health referrals and help ensure recommendations are appropriately followed up.
• Prepare employment contracts, letters and documentation relating to starters, leavers, salary changes, promotions and other contractual changes.
• Work with Recruitment and hiring managers to support pre-employment checks, onboarding, inductions and probation processes.
• Maintain accurate and confidential employee records within the HR system.
• Prepare monthly payroll changes and work with Finance or Payroll to resolve employee pay queries.
• Produce regular reports covering absence, turnover, employee relations, probation and other key people measures.
• Support the review and improvement of HR policies, systems and working practices.
• Contribute to employee engagement, wellbeing, training and wider people projects.
• Build effective working relationships with managers and help strengthen their confidence in managing people matters.

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

Essential

• CIPD Level 5 qualification or equivalent practical HR experience.
• Previous experience as an HR Advisor, Junior HR Advisor or experienced HR Coordinator, with practical exposure to employee relations casework.
• Working knowledge of UK employment legislation and experience supporting disciplinary, grievance, absence, capability or performance processes.
• Confidence providing clear, balanced and practical HR advice to managers and employees.
• Strong organisation and case-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and follow matters through to resolution.
• Strong written communication, attention to detail and experience preparing accurate HR documentation.

Desirable

• Experience working within education, higher education or another regulated environment.
• Experience supporting organisational change, restructuring or consultation processes.
• Experience producing HR dashboards, reports or workforce analysis.
• Experience coordinating occupational health referrals.
• Experience supporting employee engagement or wellbeing initiatives.
• Experience working within a growing, multi-site or multi-entity organisation.
