Job summary

If so, NHS Professionals are currently recruiting for Registered General Nurses to work at Southampton General Hospital in the EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT to join the bank. As a Registered General Nurse your main role will be.

To provide a high standard of individualised nursing care in accordance with agreed policies, through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for individual patients.

To teach learners and other nursing staff in the ward environment.

Main duties of the job
To perform agreed nursing practice without direct supervision and maintain a high standard of nursing care. Nursing patients with specific A&E problems will be undertaken with guidance and direction from more senior staff, to aid development of specialist knowledge and skills to ensure appropriate nursing care.

Maintain individual patient care plans, evaluating and updating them as necessary to ensure that the patient's physical, social and psychological needs are met. Will undertake initial assessment of patients arriving in A&E, without a diagnosis, with guidance from senior staff. Recognises the need for prioritisation, but refers to senior staff for assistance in carrying it out

Learns the skills of developing a therapeutic relationship with A&E patients in a short time span.

Supervise and participate in keeping accurate and legible records and be aware of the legal implications of these documents. (Ref NMC Rules) Date, Timed and Signed.

Maintain effective communication with nursing colleagues and work with other professional groups in all aspects of patient care and the ward environment. Knowing how and when and where they can make suggestions for change

Support the Senior Sister/ Charge Nurse to maintain and develop ward philosophy and objectives.

Job responsibilities
We have flexible bank shifts and long-term placement opportunities for RGN available within the Emergency Department at University Hospital Southampton.Pay rates are as follows:

Monday-Friday (days) £19.33 per hour
Saturday and Nights £25.13 per hour
Sunday & bank holidays £30.93 per hour

General Duties: Professional Practice:
  • To provide a high standard of care for patients by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for individual patients.
  • To give and receive regular reports on the progress of patients, reporting immediately any changes in the patients condition to the senior trained nurse on duty, or the medical staff as appropriate.
  • To carry out all aspects of nursing care, treatments and procedures within agreed policies and procedures including Plaster of Paris Application and Wound Closure techniques such as Suturing.
  • To work with medical staff and other members of the health care team to ensure that treatments are carried out within agreed policies.
  • To maintain accurate records of observation, treatment, and patient/family care.
  • To receive patients and their relatives in a calm, courteous and reassuring manner, participate in providing information and support.
  • To ensure the safe custody of patients belongings and valuables according to Trust policy.
  • To participate in the checking and administration of prescribed drugs (including controlled drugs) and other substances in accordance with Trust policy.
  • To participate in the checking and administration of intravenous drugs having demonstrated relevant knowledge and competence and been authorised by Sister/Charge Nurse or Senior Nurse
  • To ensure that all equipment is in good working order and ready for immediate use. Report any defective equipment or provision of supplies to Sister/Charge Nurse or deputy.
  • To inform the sister/Charge Nurse or deputy of any untoward events or problems affecting patients or staff, where appropriate complete an accident or incident form.
  • To support the Fire Group Leader, ensuring that all staff are aware of: Position of firefighting equipment. Standard fire procedure.
  • To always uphold confidentiality due to patients and relatives and in all situations according to Trust policy.

Personnel & Professional Development:
  • To wear the correct uniform and to always present oneself in a professional manner.
  • To adhere to policies and procedures and be familiar with the location of current files.
  • To participate in the promotion of good working relationships within the department, and external agencies.
  • To attend meetings on matters related to the department.
  • To keep up to date with clinical developments and participate in innovation and change concerned with improving the standards of care for patients.

Additional Duties:
  • To have personal knowledge of cardiac arrest procedure and the Major Incident procedure.
  • To assist in the achievement of department performance indicators.
  • To participate in the discharge planning process for named patients.

Qualifications
Essential
  • Qualified Registered Nurse with valid NMC PIN
  • Minimum 6-months experience working within emergency department in the past 2-years (within the UK)

  • We are looking for ED Nurses who can work DAY SHIFTS Monday-Friday
