Job overview

Advanced Paediatric Clinical Pharmacist – Oncology (Band 7)
26.25 hours per week | Cross-site role | Base: Worthing Hospital
(Potential opportunity to increase to full-time hours and work within aseptics and/or adult cancer services.)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated pharmacist to join the Women’s and Children’s Pharmacy Team as an Advanced Paediatric Clinical Pharmacist specialising in Paediatric Oncology and Haematology.

You will provide clinical pharmacy services and support to children and young people receiving cancer treatment. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, regional Principal Treatment Centres and oncology networks, you will contribute to safe, effective and patient-centred medicines optimisation.

As part of the developing Paediatric Oncology Shared Care Unit (POSCU), you will support specialist oncology pharmacy services across inpatient, outpatient and day-case settings.

The role offers specialist development in paediatric oncology and haematology, access to regional and national networks, opportunities for service development, and a supportive multidisciplinary environment focused on innovation and professional growth.

University Hospitals Sussex is one of the UK's largest acute NHS trusts, committed to delivering excellent care through its values of compassion, inclusion and respect.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop specialist clinical practice while making a meaningful difference to children and young people with cancer.

Main duties of the job

About the Role

As an Advanced Paediatric Clinical Pharmacist, you will deliver advanced clinical pharmacy services to paediatric patients, developing specialist expertise in oncology and haematology. Key responsibilities include participating in consultant-led ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings, providing expert advice on systemic anti-cancer therapies (SACT) and supportive care medicines, clinically screening oncology prescriptions, supporting medicines optimisation and patient counselling, and contributing to service development, audit, quality improvement and clinical governance. You will also support digital prescribing initiatives, chemotherapy safety programmes, and provide education and supervision to pharmacy colleagues and other healthcare professionals.

About You

You will be a GPhC-registered pharmacist with experience in an acute hospital pharmacy setting, strong clinical and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams. You should be committed to delivering high-quality care for children and young people and motivated to develop specialist expertise in paediatric oncology. Experience in paediatrics and/or oncology, postgraduate qualifications, and involvement in audit, research or service improvement activities are desirable.

We hope that in choosing UHSussex you are choosing a long and happy career where you will be able to see the difference you make and feel valued for all that you do.
