Maintenance Manager

Job Description

We are looking for an experienced technical professional with a strong background in estates, facilities management, engineering, or building services.

This role will lead a multi-skilled maintenance team, provide technical advice to stakeholders, and ensure compliance with health and safety legislation while managing budgets and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the delivery of planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across all mechanical and electrical systems, plant, equipment, buildings, and estate fabric.
• Lead and manage a multi-skilled maintenance team including Estates Technicians, Tradespeople, Maintenance Assistants, and Gardeners.
• Ensure maintenance services are delivered in accordance with output specifications and contractual requirements.
• Participate in Hard FM Operational Review Meetings and provide technical support to operational stakeholders.
• Assist and advise Service Managers, NHS staff, and healthcare stakeholders on estates maintenance matters.
• Control expenditure and financial commitments within delegated budget limits, monitoring budget pressures and cost risks.
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation, including risk assessments, method statements, safe systems of work, and permit-to-work procedures.
• Manage team performance and day-to-day operational activities, ensuring effective service delivery.

Professional and Personal Competencies/Qualifications

• Technical management experience within estates, facilities management, engineering, or building services.
• Minimum HND in a Building Services subject.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical building services maintenance.
• Understanding of Health & Safety legislation, risk assessment processes, and permit-to-work systems.
• Knowledge of financial regulations, KPI reporting, forecasting, works order reporting, and P&L management.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
• Excellent organisational and numeracy skills, with the ability to understand and assist with budgets.
• Mechanical or Electrical qualifications.
• Full UK driving licence required for participation in the on-call rota (1 in 4).
