Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant

Primary SEN School | Bury | Teaching Personnel

Are you a graduate with experience supporting children or young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? Are you looking to build a rewarding long-term career within specialist education?

Teaching Personnel are seeking a motivated, resilient, and proactive Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary SEN school in Bury. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience within a specialist setting while making a genuine difference to the lives of pupils with additional needs.

The Opportunity

As a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to help pupils access learning, develop independence, and achieve their individual goals. You will provide tailored support on both a 1:1 basis and within small groups, adapting your approach to meet the diverse needs of pupils throughout the school day.

This is a hands-on role that requires confidence, adaptability, and a positive attitude, particularly when supporting pupils with challenging behaviours and personal care requirements.

Key Duties

  • Support pupils with SEN on a 1:1 and small-group basis
  • Assist in delivering differentiated and engaging learning activities
  • Implement and support Individual Learning Plans (ILPs)
  • Promote positive behaviour and help manage challenging situations effectively
  • Support pupils with personal care and physical needs when required
  • Encourage social, emotional, and communication development
  • Help create a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and wider support staff
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback on wellbeing and achievement

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN
  • Confident, resilient, and proactive approach
  • Comfortable supporting personal care needs
  • Ability to manage and respond positively to challenging behaviour
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
  • Genuine passion for SEN education and supporting vulnerable learners

Desirable Experience

  • Previous work within a specialist or SEN school setting
  • Understanding of ASD, SEMH, SLCN, or complex needs
  • Team Teach training or willingness to complete training
  • Interest in pursuing a career in teaching, educational psychology, therapy, or related fields

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
