Intervention Specialist Teaching Assistant

Location: Garston, Liverpool (L19)
Start Date: September 2026
Contract Type: Flexible Supply / Temporary (with the potential for extension or a permanent position)
Pay Rate: £14.25 - £15.50 per hour (depending on experience)

Teaching Personnel are delighted to be working alongside a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Garston to recruit an Intervention Specialist Teaching Assistant for the 2026/27 academic year. This rewarding position is ideal for an experienced Teaching Assistant or education professional who is passionate about raising attainment, building pupil confidence, and delivering targeted support that makes a lasting difference.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering literacy and numeracy interventions to small groups and individual pupils across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, helping children overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

The Role

As an Intervention Specialist Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering targeted literacy and numeracy interventions to pupils requiring additional support
  • Supporting pupils who are working below age-related expectations to improve attainment and confidence
  • Working closely with class teachers and the SENCO to identify pupil needs and monitor progress
  • Adapting learning materials and intervention strategies to meet individual requirements
  • Providing both one-to-one and small-group support sessions
  • Maintaining accurate records of pupil engagement, progress, and achievement
  • Encouraging positive behaviour, resilience, and independent learning skills

The Ideal Candidate

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Have recent experience delivering interventions within a primary school setting
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the KS1 and KS2 curriculum, particularly English and Mathematics
  • Be confident supporting pupils on both a one-to-one basis and in small groups
  • Possess excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Be proactive, adaptable, and able to use your own initiative
  • Hold a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or have equivalent relevant experience
  • Be passionate about supporting children to achieve their individual goals
  • Hold an enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one through Teaching Personnel
