Position:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Pathologist based at University Hopsital Crosshouse. This post is offered on a permanent.

Hours:

Post 1: 40 hours per week.

Post 2: 40 hours per week.

Post 3: 40 hours per week.

Post 4: 24 hours per week.

From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.

UK Driving Licence:

A UK driving licence is essential for this role.

What you will do:

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Histopathologist based in Laboratory Services, University Hospital Crosshouse, Kilmarnock.

We are looking for dynamic and enthusiastic individuals to join our friendly team of consultant histopathologists. Successful candidates will be able to report cases from a wide range of General Surgical Pathology practice including diagnostic cytology, although a degree of subspecialisation has also been introduced.

The role includes:

  • Contribution to a consultant-led Histopathology service.
  • Participation in multi-disciplinary team meetings.
  • Ensuring that the service continues to meet UKAS standards.
  • Taking part in the adult autopsy service for the local procurator fiscal

Knowledge, training and/or experience required for this post:

Our service has a reputation for being innovative and forward thinking. The department has been using digital pathology in routine clinical practice since 2020. The post will appeal to suitably qualified persons who are enthusiastic and are looking for a stimulating and challenging career. Consultants in Ayrshire and Arran are encouraged and supported to develop their skills and services, as well as be involved with or lead organisational development and improvement. The Health Board has a strong and substantive commitment to staff wellbeing, and a safe, caring and respectful culture.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Organisation in consultation with consultant colleagues.
