Job description
Admissions Officer – Primary School – Reading Start Date: As soon as possible Contract: Full-Time, Permanent Salary: Paid to scale A friendly and well-established primary school in Reading is looking to appoint an organised and professional Admissions Officer to oversee pupil admissions and provide high-quality administrative support throughout the admissions process. This is an exciting opportunity to join a welcoming school where strong relationships with families and excellent organisation are central to everyday life. Working closely with the Headteacher and school office, you will coordinate admissions from initial enquiries through to enrolment, ensuring every family receives a positive experience while maintaining accurate records and complying with local authority procedures. The successful candidate will have excellent organisational skills, outstanding attention to detail and the ability to communicate confidently with parents, carers and external agencies. Admissions Team The admissions function plays an important role in welcoming new pupils and ensuring all enrolment procedures are completed efficiently and accurately. As Admissions Officer, you will manage applications while acting as a key point of contact for prospective families. Your responsibilities will include: Managing pupil admissions from enquiry to enrolment. Liaising with parents, carers and the local authority. Organising school tours and admissions meetings. Maintaining accurate pupil records and admissions data. Processing application forms and supporting documentation. Ensuring compliance with admissions policies and procedures. Preparing admissions reports for senior leaders. Supporting transition arrangements for new pupils. Responding to admissions enquiries by telephone, email and in person. Working closely with the wider school office to ensure smooth administrative processes. Maintaining confidentiality of pupil information. Supporting general office administration during busy periods. The successful candidate will become an integral member of the office team, helping families feel welcomed while ensuring admissions processes are delivered professionally and efficiently. Requirements Previous experience in school administration or admissions is desirable. Excellent organisational and administrative skills. Strong communication and customer service skills. High level of accuracy and attention to detail. Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office. Ability to manage multiple priorities. Friendly, approachable and professional manner. Commitment to confidentiality and safeguarding. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Positive attitude and commitment to supporting the wider school community.
