Engineering Supervisor

Location: Theberton (Sizewell C)

Ready to step up from the tools without stepping away from engineering?

If you're an experienced engineer who enjoys leading people as much as solving technical problems, this could be the next step in your career.

As our Engineering Supervisor, you'll lead an experienced workshop team while remaining hands-on with the maintenance and repair of one of the UK's largest and most modern mobile crane fleets.

Whether your background is in cranes, heavy plant, agricultural machinery, commercial vehicles or other heavy equipment, you'll be joining a business that values engineering excellence, invests in its people and offers genuine opportunities to develop your career.

Why Ainscough Crane Hire?

At Ainscough Crane Hire, we're the UK's leading lifting solutions provider, operating from 30 locations nationwide and supporting some of the country's biggest infrastructure, construction and industrial projects.

Safety is at the heart of everything we do. Our commitment to Always Make the Safe Choice isn't just a slogan—it's the standard we work to every day, protecting our people, our customers and the communities we serve.

As part of our engineering team, you'll have the opportunity to work with industry-leading equipment, share your knowledge with others and continue developing your own skills through ongoing training and professional development.

What you'll be doing

As Engineering Supervisor, you'll oversee the day-to-day running of the workshop, ensuring servicing, inspections and repairs are completed safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading, motivating and supporting the depot engineering team, ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently.
  • Allocating work, planning workshop priorities and managing daily staffing, holidays and overtime.
  • Maintaining high standards of workshop safety, housekeeping and engineering quality.
  • Coordinating servicing, inspections and repairs across cranes, trailers and support vehicles.
  • Taking a hands-on approach to diagnostics, fault finding and repairs when required.
  • Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic faults across a variety of heavy equipment.
  • Managing workshop stock and ensuring parts availability to minimise downtime.
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records and ensuring compliance with company and legislative requirements.
  • Working closely with operational teams to maximise fleet availability and deliver exceptional service to our customers.
  • Driving continuous improvement within the workshop, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, reliability and engineering performance.

This is a varied leadership role where no two days are the same. You'll be trusted to make decisions, develop your team and play a key role in keeping our fleet operating safely and reliably.

About you

You're an experienced engineer who leads by example and enjoys helping others succeed.

You'll have:

  • A recognised engineering qualification such as NVQ or City & Guilds.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring or leading an engineering or maintenance team.
  • A strong background working on mobile cranes, heavy plant, agricultural machinery, HGVs or similar heavy equipment.
  • Excellent diagnostic skills across mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic systems.
  • Experience planning workloads, coordinating maintenance activities and maintaining high engineering standards.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills with a practical, solutions-focused approach.
  • Basic IT skills to maintain engineering records and documentation.

Above all, you'll share our commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.

Why join Ainscough?

Joining Ainscough means becoming part of a business that's committed to developing its people as much as its equipment.

You'll lead a skilled engineering team, work on industry-leading machinery and have access to ongoing manufacturer training and development opportunities that will help you continue building your career.

If you're looking for a role where you can combine your technical expertise with leadership responsibility while making a real impact, we'd love to hear from you.

Make the Safe Choice. Join Our Team.

Ainscough Crane Hire is an Equal Opportunities Employer. We value diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and assess candidates solely on merit and business need. If you require any reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process, please let us know.
