Attendance Officer – Primary School – Colchester Start Date: As soon as possible Contract: Full-Time, Permanent Salary: Paid to scale A welcoming primary school in Colchester is looking to appoint a dedicated and highly organised Attendance Officer to join its experienced support staff team. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who understands the positive impact excellent attendance has on children's progress and is passionate about working collaboratively with families to ensure every pupil has the opportunity to succeed. Working closely with the Headteacher, Inclusion Lead and wider administrative team, you will take responsibility for monitoring attendance and punctuality, identifying emerging patterns and supporting families where attendance concerns arise. The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator who can build positive relationships while maintaining high expectations and following statutory attendance procedures. This is a varied and rewarding role that offers the opportunity to make a genuine difference to pupils' educational experiences from the moment they join the school. Attendance Team The Attendance Team works proactively with families, staff and external agencies to promote excellent attendance and punctuality across the school. As Attendance Officer, you will coordinate attendance procedures while ensuring records remain accurate and interventions are implemented promptly. Your responsibilities will include: Monitoring daily pupil attendance and punctuality. Contacting parents regarding unexplained absences. Maintaining accurate attendance records using the school's MIS. Producing attendance reports for senior leaders. Identifying attendance trends and supporting intervention strategies. Liaising with the local authority and external agencies where appropriate. Meeting with parents to discuss attendance concerns. Supporting reintegration following extended absences. Promoting positive attendance initiatives across the school. Maintaining confidential pupil records. Ensuring attendance procedures comply with statutory guidance. Supporting the wider office team during busy periods. The successful candidate will become part of a friendly and supportive team that is committed to improving attendance outcomes and ensuring every pupil benefits from regular school attendance. Requirements Previous school administration or attendance experience is desirable. Excellent organisational and communication skills. Strong attention to detail. Ability to build positive relationships with families. Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office. Experience using school MIS systems is advantageous. Professional and approachable manner. Ability to manage confidential information. Commitment to safeguarding and inclusion. Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
