Stonehouse Technology Centre (SHTC) is the SLB drilling Centre of Excellence. It supports SLB through innovative engineering and quality-driven manufacturing, with portfolio emphasis on rotary steerable systems, Measurement While Drilling tools, Specialised Measurement tools and Rechargeable Batteries for Downhole use, and power source products.

Over 300 employees work in SHTC's modern, fit-for-purpose building in scenic Gloucestershire. The facility was constructed to handle future demand for PowerDrive tools with an efficient workflow that ensures assembled tools are extensively and rigorously tested before delivery. On site, tools can be monitored using state of-the-art hardware and connectivity that link SHTC to all field locations.

Job Summary:

The Electrical Engineer - Manufacturing is a key role within the Manufacturing department, responsible for ensuring smooth, efficient, and reliable product delivery. This hands-on position leads proactive troubleshooting of issues that occur during electrical assembly and electrical testing, while continuously improving end-to-end manufacturing processes through the application of Industry 4.0 principles and Lean methodologies.

As the owner of their assigned manufacturing processes, the Electrical Engineer - Manufacturing maintains and elevates operational standards by training shop-floor personnel, implementing and monitoring critical performance metrics, and providing close day-to-day production support. They are accountable for resolving complex electronic manufacturing problems and play an active role in addressing electrical safety concerns, quality issues, and production-yield challenges.

This role is also deeply involved in new-product introduction, collaborating with New Product Development Engineering teams from early concept through successful commercialisation. Responsibilities include reviewing new electrical designs and components, developing manufacturing technology roadmaps, providing Design for Manufacturing feedback, and leading the creation of Process FMECAs to ensure robust, safe, and scalable production.

Typical Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Identify & implement process improvements to achieve manufacturing excellence in areas such as process yield (e.g. First Pass Yield, Rolled Throughput Yield), cycle time reduction and productivity.
  • Troubleshooting/ de-bugging electronic test issues (hardware, firmware) to enable completion of the product to a high quality standard
  • Provide shop floor feedback on product design and manufacturability issues to Engineering and DFMs (e.g. through the use of Engineering Change Requests - ECRs).
  • Responsible to assist with investigation, root cause analysis and corrective action implementation for manufacturing quality issues.
  • Responsible for the implementation of key elements of Lean, such as: standardized work instructions, line balancing, layout and work sequence (routing) optimization, training development matrix, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen/5S workouts, pull processes, TPM (total preventive maintenance), cell design, and quick changeover/batch-size optimization.
  • Review and sign-off on Engineering Change Orders that impact Inventory - including product life cycle issues, obsolescence, etc.
  • Creates, implements, and monitors key performance indicators and metrics on manufacturing process capability and product quality.
  • Monitoring and reducing process costs.


Qualifications:
  • Masters in Electrical Engineering or similar.


Competencies:
  • Knowledge of electronics design and manufacturing processes, including:
    • Hardware to software interfacing
    • System engineering
    • Mixed analog and digital design
    • Power supply circuitry
    • Basic PWA/PWB Assembly process (preferred)
