Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice is the only specialist palliative care inpatient unit in Peterborough. We support people aged 18 and over who are living with life‑limiting conditions such as cancer, heart failure and lung disease. The expert team on our inpatient unit combine specialist medical care for managing pain and other symptoms, with emotional, practical and spiritual support. Our wellbeing and community support team are here to listen too Our Hospice at Home service is available seven days a week and provides care to patients with a life limiting illness who wish to be cared for at home at the end of their life About the Role In palliative care no day is the same. Working on our inpatient unit provides a unique opportunity because we care for patients with such a variety of conditions and symptoms. Our nurses play an indispensable role in providing compassionate, holistic care for patients with life‑limiting illnesses. Their work extends far beyond medical tasks, encompassing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support for both patients and their families. Registered nurses work early shifts, late shifts, long days, nights, and weekends. As this role supports a 24/7 service, we are seeking candidates with flexibility to work a range of shifts as required. Main duties of the job The successful applicants will play an active role within our multidisciplinary team. You will work alongside Specialty Doctors, therapy staff, volunteers and other vital members of the MDT taking a holistic approach in providing the best possible outcomes for each patient. Duties include but are not limited to: * Providing support, leadership, recognition and supervision to junior members of staff * Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised clinical care for service users * Using evidence‑based practice to develop and maintain high‑quality care * Ensuring that the team provide all care in line with the care plan. * Helping to organise the admission and discharge of service users About you Sue Ryder prides itself on giving our patients the best possible quality of life by providing a holistic and individualised service. Our ideal candidate will have experience of working in Palliative and End of Life Care. This experience may come from a hospice or alternatively, for example, from a high dependency unit or oncology service.
