Job description

SEND Teacher - Early Years

Not every child starts their learning journey feeling safe, confident, or ready to engage.

Some need a little more time. A little more patience. A teacher who understands that the smallest steps can lead to the biggest breakthroughs.

If you're passionate about Early Years SEND education, Autism (ASC), SEMH, and helping children reach their potential through nurture, play, and personalised support, this could be the perfect role for you.

We're recruiting an Early Years SEND Teacher for a specialist school in North west Leeds, supporting young learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and complex learning difficulties.

This is an opportunity to make a lasting difference during the most important stage of a child's development.

What You'll Be Doing

As an Early Years SEND Teacher, you'll create a safe, nurturing learning environment where every child can thrive at their own pace.

Your responsibilities will include:

✅ Planning and delivering engaging, child-centred EYFS lessons tailored to individual needs

✅ Supporting children with Autism (ASC), SEMH, communication difficulties, sensory needs, and complex SEND

✅ Using play-based and therapeutic approaches to encourage learning, confidence, and independence

✅ Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils and their families

✅ Working collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, SENCOs, therapists, and wider multidisciplinary teams

✅ Celebrating progress in all its forms – from first words and social interactions to academic achievements

Why Early Years SEND Matters

In Early Years, every interaction counts.

The child who joins a group activity for the first time. The child who learns to communicate a need. The child who finally feels safe enough to engage in learning.

These moments may seem small to others, but they're life-changing for the children and families you support.

Why Teachers Choose Specialist Early Years SEND Roles

This role offers the chance to teach in a way that truly reflects your values.

You'll benefit from:

  • Opportunities within specialist schools, SEND provisions, and alternative education settings
  • Supportive SEND-focused leadership teams
  • Smaller class sizes and personalised approaches to learning
  • Long-term and permanent career opportunities
  • The ability to make a genuine difference every day

You'll Thrive in This Role If You...

✔️ Have a passion for Early Years Education and SEND

✔️ Understand the importance of communication, nurture, and relationship-building

✔️ Stay calm, patient, and adaptable when challenges arise

✔️ Believe every child deserves to feel safe, understood, and successful

✔️ Enjoy working collaboratively as part of a supportive team

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or significant experience within SEND or specialist education settings
  • Knowledge of the EYFS Framework
  • Experience supporting children with SEND, Autism (ASC), SEMH, or additional learning needs
  • A nurturing, child-centred approach to teaching and learning
  • Confidence adapting lessons and environments to meet varying needs

⭐ What You'll Receive

  • Weekly PAYE pay – no umbrella companies
  • Free CPD, including SEND, Autism, behaviour support, and inclusive practice training
  • Access to free Thrive Training
  • Flexible opportunities to suit your career goals
  • Dedicated consultant support from people who genuinely understand education

Thrive Trained?

Fantastic – schools highly value Thrive practitioners within Early Years and SEND settings.

Not trained yet? No problem. We offer free Thrive training, equipping you with practical strategies to support children's emotional development, wellbeing, and readiness for learning.
