Job description
Overview Paramedic with special interest in MSK conditions Morris House Group Practice is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Primary Care Paramedic with a special interest in Musculoskeletal (MSK) Conditions to join our friendly multidisciplinary team. You will assess and manage patients with acute, urgent and long-term conditions, undertake telephone triage, same-day clinics and home visits, and contribute to the delivery of safe, high-quality primary care. You will also have the opportunity to develop your interest in assessing and managing musculoskeletal injuries and disorders within your scope of practice. What makes us different? About us About Morris House Group Practice Morris House is situated in Tottenham in a large, modern and airy purpose-built Medical Centre, which we share with district nurses, community physiotherapists, podiatrists, psychologists, tissue-viability nurses and a sexual health clinic. Our list size is about 15,000 patients. It is a diverse area and a cultural melting-pot. Our practice has a very strong teaching ethos. We train GP registrars, medical students, physician associates and foundation year 2 doctors among others. We have close links with Kings Medical School and the St Georges Physician Associate teaching program. We provide training to GP trainees from the Enfield and Haringey VTS and Foundation Year 2 doctors from the North Middlesex Hospital rotation program. We perform the full range of clinical roles that you would expect in primary care. In addition, we offer high level minor surgery and specialist tongue tie release services. We have Diabetic, Learning Disability, Spirometry clinics. We offer a range of face to face and telephone appointments. We are a friendly and interactive practice. We support our staff with study leave allowance, study leave funding, regular meetings, morning coffee, teaching and social events. We conduct regular satisfaction surveys. Job responsibilities * Job Summary * Work autonomously within the multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality, patient-centred primary care. * Assess, diagnose and manage patients presenting with acute, urgent, chronic and undifferentiated conditions within own scope of practice. * Provide same-day care, telephone triage and home visits. * Develop a special interest in the assessment and management of musculoskeletal conditions. * Participate in audit, quality improvement, education and service development. * Work within the Morris House Traffic Light Clinical Allocation System, allowing flexible allocation of patients according to clinician competence. Clinical Responsibilities * Undertake comprehensive history taking, clinical examination and clinical decision making. * Manage acute illness, chronic disease exacerbations and urgent presentations. * Undertake home visits where clinically appropriate. * Provide telephone and face-to-face consultations. * Assess and manage minor illness and minor injuries. * Assess patients with musculoskeletal injuries and disorders including sprains, strains, back pain, neck pain and peripheral joint disorders within scope of practice. * Identify red flags and serious pathology and arrange urgent escalation or referral. * Initiate and interpret investigations where appropriate and within local pathways. * Refer patients appropriately to secondary care, community services and voluntary organisations. * Support long-term condition management, health promotion and self-management. * Assist with vaccination programmes when required. * Maintain accurate EMIS documentation, coding and clinical records. * Complete mandatory training in a timely fashion. Care and Programme Management * Contribute to QOF, Enhanced Services and local quality improvement initiatives. * Support safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults. * Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and case discussions. * Provide advice and education to patients, carers and colleagues. Strategic Development of Primary Care Services * Support innovation and service redesign. * Contribute to development of Allied Health Professional services. * Participate in Primary Care Network initiatives. * Promote evidence-based practice and continuous improvement. Health Improvement * Promote healthy lifestyles, physical activity and preventative healthcare. * Provide education regarding musculoskeletal health, rehabilitation and self-management. * Signpost patients to appropriate community services. Communication * Communicate effectively with patients, carers and the multidisciplinary team. * Build productive working relationships with internal and external organisations. * Present information clearly in verbal and written formats. Management & Leadership * Demonstrate professionalism, accountability and leadership. * Participate in audit, research and quality improvement. * Support students and colleagues where appropriate. * Maintain mandatory training and professional registration. Manage and Use Information * Maintain accurate electronic patient records using EMIS Web. * Ensure compliance with information governance, GDPR and Caldicott principles. * Support development of clinical protocols and data quality. Equality, Safeguarding and Professional Responsibilities * Promote equality, diversity and inclusion. * Recognise and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns involving children and vulnerable adults. * Participate in annual appraisal, reflective practice and continuing professional development. * Utilise protected CPD time, annual study leave and study budget. * Work in accordance with HCPC Standards of Proficiency, College of Paramedics guidance, NICE guidance and Morris House Group Practice policies. Quality and Confidentiality * Deliver safe, evidence-based care and participate in clinical audit and significant event reviews. * Maintain patient confidentiality at all times in accordance with NHS guidance and GDPR. * Take responsibility for maintaining high standards of clinical practice and patient safety. Qualifications and Experience * BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science or recognised equivalent * Current HCPC registration with no restrictions * Level 3 Safeguarding (Adults and Children) * Advanced Life Support (ALS) * MSc Advanced Clinical Practice (or working towards) * Relevant qualification in management of MSK conditions * Knowledge of NICE guidance and evidence-based practice * Knowledge of HCPC standards and College of Paramedics guidance * Experience working within multidisciplinary teams * Understanding of NHS Primary Care and ARRS roles * Experience in quality improvement, audit or teaching * Minimum 5 years\ post-registration experience * Previous Primary Care experience Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
