Job description
Overview We are actively recruiting for future posts in 2027. 12 hour shifts (days and nights) rotating shifts – 4 shifts on, 2 days, 2 nights, 4 shift off. Serving an estimated population of nearly 600,000 people, Warwickshire Police receive over 90,000 emergency calls per year, in addition to many more non‑emergency calls for service. This role helps build trust and safety across Warwickshire’s diverse communities. Working as part of our OCC Control Room as a Communications Officer is a varied and diverse role, with no two calls the same. You might record details of a stolen vehicle, or send officers to an armed robbery. You may also resolve calls directly by offering advice without dispatching an officer – if you are calm under pressure and able to gather information quickly, your voice can make a difference. The control room operates 365 days a year, 24 hours a day – a pressured environment that is also hugely rewarding. Knowing you have helped someone at a critical time is incredibly satisfying. We want people who are calm under pressure, team‑orientated, have attention to detail, can multitask, and have the determination to help those in need with empathy and professionalism. We are recruiting for a pool of people for intakes over the next six to twelve months. The department operates full‑time and part‑time patterns that are able to work the core shift pattern. Application Process Initial Application: Complete an application form and answer questions to demonstrate how your experiences align with the essential and desirable criteria. Responses will be scored based on relevance. * Paper Sift: Independent reviewers will evaluate your application against recruitment criteria, scoring each question from 1‑4. * Assessment Centre: Held at Warwickshire Police OCC in Warwick Technology Park. The session takes several hours and includes: o Spelling Test o Statement Test (Listening) o Mapping Exercise o Typing Test o Problem Solving Exercise o Example Calls Exercise * Interview: Conducted via Microsoft Teams, lasting about an hour. You will be asked six questions related to the essential criteria, including example‑based and scenario‑based questions. * Vetting: Background checks gathering details of your family and any known criminal associations. * Final Offer: Formal job offer after successfully completing all previous stages. * Training: Six weeks of classroom training (Mon‑Fri). No annual leave during this period. * Tutoring: After training, a tutor will guide you as you start taking live calls and transition into the full role.
